If the Yanks can't hit against 38-yr. old Pedro tonight, who the Mets gave up on,they better start buying some more talent over their long winter.

Cliff Lee struck out 10 Yankees, caught a pop up with his eyes closed, and fielded a grounder with his glove behind his back. There was no stopping him last night and he deserves all the credit in the world.
If the Phillies have more pitchers like that then the Yankees are going down. However, I'm sticking with my prediction of Yankees in 6. That gives Lee his 2.

Damon steals second - then third! What happened there? Good to see Rodriguez hit the ball when the Phillies aren't beaning him.
But Cliff Lee pitches for the Phillies again tomorrow night, so I still say Yankees in 6.

Mark Teixeira was batting after Damon. Teixeira is a left handed batter, and was intending to pull the ball to right field. In this situation, a ball hit to right field allows the runner on first to advance on to third.
With that knowledge the Philthies shifted their defense to the right side in anticipation of a ground ball, or a shallow pop-up. This puts the short stop on the right side of, or directly behind 2nd base. The third baseman then comes over to play short stop.
For what ever reason, the 3rd baseman, and not the short stop took the throw on the steal by Damon from the catcher. This left the whole left side of the infield wide open, with nobody except for the pitcher left to cover third.
Since the play happened bang, bang, ....so fast, the pitcher may of not took the time to digest the fact that third base was left unguarded.
Dispite what anyone ever says, baseball is a thinking man's game. You have to be in total awareness of your surroundings every minute of the game. A cool head will always prevail.
All in all I thought it was brilliant heads-up baseball by Damon. Baseball is just like the game of chess, you have to exploit to the fullest, your opponent's mistakes.

That win should be credited to Damon's incredible at bat and base running. The Yankees are resilient but so are the Phillies. Go Yanks
