I would guess that it is about 50 times as expensive as plain clorox. would be good to get one just for the bottle reuse however.

I think it runs around $3 or $4 a bottle. Since one bottle lasts all season . . I really don't think we'll worry about the cost.

no a spray bottle would cost most of that, but I think I would just refill it myself. and not with "real" clorox, any imitation would do.

We just got back from our first outing in our RV. We hooked up with ease, but didn't think about spraying or wiping down the water spigot. Our first morning as I was cooking breakfast, I was watching the neighbors prepare to leave. Guy had his gloves on, took off the water hose, wound it up, put it away. Proceeded to dump his black, then grey, unhook, shake it down, then walk over to the water spigot, shove the sewer hose on to the spigot & turn the water on! He proceeded to rinse it out straight to the water spigot.

So, from now on, we will definitely make sure we disinfect before hooking up the water! We were so thankful that we had brought bottled water along for drinking & making coffee. Lesson learned!

I've seen several references to spraying a bleach solution on the campground spigot to disinfect it. I'm still here without having done that all these years but figure it falls in the might help can't hurt category.

But I wonder about alternatives to a bleach solution. Downsides I see to the bleach deal are a limited shelf life so I'd have to remember to make a new batch and it can mess up your clothes pretty good (don't ask). What about Lysol or something?

I really don't consider the CG spigot needing that type of attention. Think about it anything will be on the outside on the threads and just turning on the spigot and using your hand to rinse/wipe off the threads with your hand will the spigot is open should get rid of 99% of anything on there and then your hose with the washer doesn't allow what is on the threads to get inside the hose so there should never be a problem with contamination for a CG spigot.

I think this CG FW connection contamination issue is over done and in almost 40 years I have never had an issue just being smart and most of the time when I hook up my FW hose I flush it out anyway before hooking it up the the TT FW inlet anyway.

You probably get 100X the germs from just touching the spigot handle than you do from the spigot threads/issues not to mention raising the CG electrical box cover or moving the pick table, etc., etc.

But I must say, I am still here after 56 years of never disinfecting any public spigot or facility.
Can't remember ever getting ill after their use.

LOL ... I have 5 more years past your 56 (40 Camping) of never disinfecting any public spigot or facility so that that tells me this is a non issue issue so to speak.

And how do you think the contaminated the inside of the water line on the spigot, maybe the threads but nothing with a simple wipe and rinse of the threads before you hook up won't fix.

As I said we are over thinking this non issue issue ...

Thanks for the great suggestions. As a total newbie--first camping trip will be next weekend--any and all help is welcome. I think we'll make a habit of using disinfectant wipes to wipe down FW spigot at CG and into our HTT; and both ends of our WH. When the time comes to use sewer hose, same thing: wipe both ends of SH and spigot before and after dump process. Where we are going, we will be using the dump station there.

One minor point would be the possibility of contamination caused by screwing SH hose ends together for storage and then screwing an end into FW spigot at campsite. Using the wipes ahead of time and thru the process would minimize that problem, IMHO.
