Hi there!
I am going to purchase an electric tongue jack for my hubby and I wanted to know what the expert opinions are as to whats a good quality electric tongue jack for our 32' Outback.
Whats a good brand?
Longevity?
How easy is installation?
How easy are they to use manually in case of a malfunction?
Do you have a photo of yours installed?

Barker VIP 3000 or 3500-Made in USA, Very easy to install. There is a hand crank for emergency use, I have not used it yet. I have heard some members say they last a long time, I have only had mine a few months so far so good. I have no picture, but it is about as attractive as a tongue jack can be. Good luck.

There seem to be two major brands; Atwood and Ultra Fab.
The most obvious difference between the two is the Atwood has a white motor housing while the Ultra Fab is black wrinkle paint.
Most TT's seem to come with Atwood, which indicates that they cost less for the RV manufacturer. We've had several Atwoods and one Ultra Fab. They all worked just fine, except the Atwoods make an awful racket compared to the Ultra Fab which sounds like a fine sewing machine by comparison.
Both install equally easily: just slip the jack into the hole in the trailer A-frame, install the 3 bolts, then run the wire to a batter POS+ terminal. Voila!

It would be very hard to go back to not having one, one of the must haves on any trailer I own from now on.
I might recommend a black or other colored (non-white) model. Mine has some serious discoloration after just two years.
Sorry I don't recall the make or model.

Barker there are several threads on this site most all jacks are great choice to buy is hard Barker 3500 seems to be number one

Thank you for the advice! One more question, I notice some are 2" and 2 1/4? What is the standard size? Our Outback is not stored at our home so I cant run out and look.

I had a Barker. It lasted 2 seasons. The manual crank assembly was junk. I currently have an Ultra Fab, and it has gone 2 seasons. It is starting to get noisy. It probably needs some grease. These things do last longer when covered. I think I left mine uncovered too long and it washed out some of the grease.
They aren't hard to mount, but I had to make up an length of cable with a lug end to attach to the battery.

I would have to agree a black colored Barker 3500lb will do the job nicely and hold up well from everything I have read.

Barker 3500. Awesome customer service. Very easy to install. Just pop off the level on top to use manual crank. Pic shown. I love my Barker 3500!

Sonic thanks for the photo, is that box behind the propane your battery set up? 6v or 12v? very nice, I'd love to know about the details of your set up in the photo if you don't mind..
