We are traveling from North Georgia to Acton, Ca. (north of LA) in Dec. Leaving around Dec. 5 and arriving Dec. 15. We will be traveling I20 to west Texas and then I10 to S. Ca. Wondering about driving conditions along the route and freezing weather if possible. We will be traveling in a MH. Thanks for any info.

I will be following your post closely as DW and I will be returning from Florida to our residence in California along the same route you are planning to take except a few weeks later. You must be a TT member heading for Soledad Canyon RV park. We will be arriving there in Acton in January. Happy travels to you and yours!
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.

We are staying at the Californian in Acton. We were out there in June and enjoyed the campground. Our son lives in Valencia and this is with-in reasonable driving distance. Tell me about Soledad Canyon RV park. Does it require a membership? Where in Fla. are you?

Currently we are in North Carolina and will be arriving in Florida in about 11 days. We will be there to watch the space shuttle launch scheduled for Nov. 16th. Then we will travel from one end of Florida to the other as we will be in Florida for a total of about 5 weeks. We will spend about 10 days in the Orlando area to visit all the major attractions just before school lets out for Christmas break before heading back west.
As for Soledad Canyon, yes it is a membership only park. I haven't seen the Californian but the Acton area is just a hop, skip and a jump from the LA Basin so makes for a good place to be close enough to visit the sites of LA but far enough to avoid the traffic and crowds when looking for some quiet time.

Great, enjoy your time in Fl. We own a condo in Panama City Beach and will be there most of Nov. Will be leaving early Dec. for the trip to Ca. Take care.

Weather conditions in West Texas , change daily unfornuately. Several times we have hit ice in west Tx. But the good thing is , it normally only last a day or two at the most. Since that is the best way to go, you really have no choice. Most times it is just cold but you should always watch or listen to the weather report during Nov, Dec, Jan.
Most times it freezes in the pm and night and is melted by noon the next day.
Have no fear though , this is normal out there.
You might consider taking I-8 at Tucson and going into Diego and take 5 up to LA, as you will miss the cal part of bad weather.

If you decide the 8, just west of El Cajon, CA take 125N to 52W to 805N to 5, That is the closest thing to a bypass loop we have. Just west of El Centro, CA Sunbeam rest area has a dump station. If the weather is good you likely will see the Blue Angels flying show formations out of their winter home at Seely NAF. There is a climb up Mt Springs Grade to 4000'. If the weather turns bad, near the summit, Golden Acorn Casino is 1/4 mile off 8, Accomodates big rigs. Drops in stages. A nice rest area at Buckman Springs also has a dump station. No more bonafide rest areas until north of San Diego. Have a great trip. Edit. noticed a typo..big difference in a quarter mile and one point four...especially if its foggy or snowing.

PeachesandCream I will also be watching your post closely as we will be taking the same route next May to LA for my grandaughters graduation. My son lives in Northridge and have looked for RV Parks,Someone recommended Tapo Canyon Park to me, we looked at Walnut RV Park and it looks pretty close. Not much room to maneuver. We are driving a 40 ft DP with a toad. Hope you have a good trip and will be anxious to see places you stayed. Feel free to PM me.

Anita,
We stayed 1 week at the Californian at Acton in June of this year. The campground was well kept. Lenght was close when parking a 36 ft. MH and a Miata toad. We were able to park the Miata behind the MH but it was close. This is also a gated park and takes a code to get in. Vistors have to park outside the gate and walk to the MH. It is a 20 min. drive to our son's house in Valencia so it would be more for you.
We travled I15 from Las Vegas in June, but will be staying South when were make the trip in Dec. We will keep in touch as we make the trip.
Take care.
