Went to usps.com to put in a change of address (to an RV park) for the winter forwarding. I entered the park's address, click submit.. bang! "We can't accept this request online because that's a business address...." Now, I'm pretty sure I've done this in the past. I'll try different variations, space numbers.. nope, just wouldn't take it.
I started over.. noticed that I can submit a change for either a business, family or individual. Aha.. I'll try business. Business name: my name. Address: my home address. Yep, that worked. Paid my dollar, no problem. Well, maybe a problem - I don't know if "business" mail is something different.
Anyway, go figure. The 'to' address IS a business where people live (no good), but MY address is NOT a business (good). Sigh..

Sheesh. I did an email complaint about it. Just got a response "sorry.. go to your post office." LOL.. so a HUMAN has to figure out this is an RV park?? I also told them I did it as a business address. We'll see what kind of fireworks this raises...

I can't tell if this is your situation but here goes. If your mail is currently being forwarded to someplace (key word forwarded), and that place is a place of business ie a rv park, than your cannot forward mail from there to another rv park.

We use them every year and we are in a cg. Did you choose temporary change of address? We have no problem. Magazines even come. No catalogs, thank heaven!!
I will say the people/mail carriers at our PO at home like you to go to the branch post office, but online is so easy and worth my dollar.

I have a similar problem every year I attempt to fill out the form to forward my mail to the campground we stay for the winter. I get a notice stating it is a business and I can't have my mail forwarded. They explained to me at the post office that it has to do with the way the mail is delivered to the campground. It is delivered in a tub and the managers have to sort it manually and hand it out or put it in our mail slots. We don't have individual addresses or lot numbers that the mail is sent to, it is just sent to the campground and not to our individula lots. I have to go to the post office customer service person every year and she puts in the forwarding request manually. I have had this done for the last 5 years because I always get the same error as you received. It does get forwarded after the request is put in by the rep. Good luck.

Did this once on line and will never do it online again. Amazingly my Florida address became my permanent address. I went to the post office window and had it done there. My postman saw the change and is on top of it so hopefully this temporary address change will work. I would suggest having someone behind the counter help you with the change instead of doing it yourself unless your mental processes are postal.

That is my situation exactly. I'm going to let my business address workaround stay in effect a few weeks and see what happens. I can't think of anything important chasing me. I'll mail something to myself and see what happens. I may be sorry I told them I did it as a business address - they'll plug that hole too.
This kinda nonsense just amazes me, and reminds me of why I'm so lucky to be retired from business programming. I can imagine having a boss come up to me and say "Program any RV park as a business where the mail is delivered in a tub. Make sure the online address change program does not allow personal mail to be forwarded there. " Then again, it's probably just some canned database that will never change.

Sharon & I told a trip around the USA in 2003 - 2004. 15 months on the road, Temporary Change's of address all the way. I believe we got most of our mail although some of it was being mailed around the country when we got back to our starting point in Las Vegas, NV and changed all our mail back. I don't recommend this but if you pay your bills online, most of your mail is not that important. OK, some will argue with that last statement but if it really is that important, they will call you.

USPS forwarding of mail was NEVER meant to be used for those of us who move around the country. It was established for those moving from one permanent address to another, and is only supposed to be used to make sure all mail makes it to the proper recipient. It's purpose was to handle the "straggler" pieces until the recipient could notify all those they deal with. That's why there is a time limit on the length of any USPS transfer.
If you're snowbirding from one spot to another and then back each year, AND have a residential address...fine, just put in the transfer with either an end date of when you'll return OR cancel it two weeks prior to your return home. If you're going to a park, as most are, then you really need to use Commerical Mail Receiving Agency to handle this for you...it costs but it will do the job, or have a family member/friend forward your mail to you.
Remember, this is a FREE service offered by USPS...it's not meant for those of us traveling the country, trying to use it in this manner is really taking advantage of the situation...(20 years in USPS, carrier and customer relations)...JMHO.
