Hi - We are new to rving and bought our motorhome so we could travel with our daughter with food allergies. We are finding travel much more relaxing and enjoyable now that we have our own kitchen along. We were wondering if there were any other families here that children with sever food allergies?

My son did not have a food allergy but was a diabetic from the time he was 17 months old. However we traveled, motel or trailer it was easier to prepare our own food than to eat out. Now there is often a section of the menu for people who need low fat or low carb. meals.
Now I cannot eat anything that has wheat, rye or barley in and it is easier for me to eat the same way. Had the same problem when I was a child, just did not know it.

*I* have severe food allergies along with celiac disease. My son has developed some food allergies, as well. Camping's a lot easier than hotels, that's for sure! Heck, during nice weather, we take a cooler and the camp grill along just for daytrips.

We have a son with a severe peanut allergy. While awareness in the world has gotten better with time, we still find comfort in the fact that meals prepared in the TT are perfectly safe. We carry epi pens with us at all times, and fortunately have never had to use them.

Our only real worry while camping is that our son is a very social animal, and always seems to find kids in the campground to play with. We just have to be very strict that he cannot go to their camper without us attending, at least the first time. We need to make sure that the other camper is safe, and the grownups are able to deal with it. He knows, no matter where we are, that he is never allowed to eat anything offered unless Mom or Dad is aware and approving. As he gets older we hope this gets less stressful.

Our daughter is 8 and is allergic to dairy, egg, peanut, tree nuts and all beans. It is giving us piece of mind to be able to make her food in our safe MH kitchen. The one thing that we need to be careful of when making reservations is that we are not under a walnut tree. We have had trouble with peanut shells at some camp sites. This does cause us concern. Has anyone experienced this and if so have you ever asked to be moved? We don't want to make more work for the staff, but we also don't want our daughter to stop breathing. Just wondering how others handle this issue.

Our kids have gluten, dairy and egg allergies. Life is so much easier in the RV than a hotel.
