Beware all snowbirds travelling south. Tonight we stopped at the Walmart store in Salem Oregon. We went inside and asked if it was O.K. to overnight here and where told yes and even told where to park and all was friendly. There where a few of us for the night. About 8 o'clock an employee and two security people hammered on the door and told us we could not stay in the walmart yard overnight. A city law prohibited this. They should post signs and not give permission. Please be aware.

Per my info, you can not overnight at the one at 1940 Turner Rd.
The one a little father north at 3025 Lancaster Drive Ne, is listed as being OK.
Which one were you at?

The Walmart we stopped at was on Lancaster Drive. And to reply to the person who said go to a campground may I say in reply we went to two campgrounds -first had a detour and we couldn't get there with big rigs and the second is not open. Tne Walmart was our third choice and we where so happy when they where so friendly only to have them turn ugly.Most of us buy groceries etc. when we stay at these stores. Never again.

You may want to bookmark RVUNDFRIENDLY.COM. It lists Walmarts that overnight parking is not permitted. Mostly all of them are because of local city ordinances, not the Walmart policy.

I wish you people would quit trying to stay over night at wal marts, I think you should try to stay in a church parking lot. at least you will be in good company. At our local wal mart I have seen the same RV parked in the far corner for the last year. that's a bit over the wall if you ask me.

It could be an employee.
I know one of our local WalMarts gave permission to one of their employees to stay in an out of the way place while they were having their stick house remodeled.

I have no understanding how it should concern you if there is an RV there or not, and believe you will have to get use to that vision with the economy as it is.
There are tent cities here in the Reno area and Sacramento, as there is in most cities across the country ... better get accustomed to seeing more of it as our society erodes forcing people to what they must to survive.

You must not travel very much if you think we shouldn't stay in a [safe][haven] overnight using a Walmart lot. When we're on the road (5 to 6 months of the year)we use their lots after asking permission and finishing our shopping. If I'm not tired and we are going to hang around for a few days we find a campground to stay in. When we check and find out there is a city ord. against it we bypass that town. The town then looses the revenue that we would of spent it their town. Fuel and stocking up the food and whatever else we need could end up being a hunk of change in the communities pocket. No loss to us as other communities want our buisness we may just have to drive a bit farther. There are books and internet sites you can check on to plan your travels around those communities who don't like us.
