Recently, in a supermarket parking lot, a stranger voiced her disapproval about our one ton truck as "bad for the planet" and "gas burner". (It's a diesel and burns no gas. What does she know?))
It did make me think. Has anyone compared the carbon footprint of an RV compared to a sticks and bricks house?
I am sure that our RV, overall, uses much less energy and has a much smaller carbon footprint than a house.
Not that a I am about to change my lifestyle, but I am curious.
What do you think or know?

Just wondering what your response was to the lady in the parking lot? It would be very hard for me to not get in her face.....This is still America and we are still free to make our own choices.....and how is it any of her business?

The RV is probably more eco-friendly, but why should we care? I'm not one of those egotists who believe that my species is powerful enough to end the world. The "Greenies" need to go smoke whatever they've been smoking and leave the rest of us alone.

I happen to idolize strangers in parking lots, place a high value on their opinion, and will make drastic changes in my life if they so dictate.

I've never been one of those folks who really cares much about carbon footprints. This is not to say that I don't care about our planet, but just that I'm not real sure that there's anything significant I could do to improve it that I'm not already doing.

This women was probably misled by Al Gore and his buddies. It has been stated by a number of scientists that global warming runs in cycles, about every 1500 years. To me green is the color of the money the greenies are making in this farce, and the color of what's in a babies diaper after eating strained peas. I've argued with a few people on this issue and none of them had a good arguement. How do they think we got out of the last ice age. I could go on and on but you the picture.

No one has ever complained about our F450. If they comment on it, we say it pulls our home. We also have Navy Seabee & Served in VNam plates. We get "Thank you for your Service".
I could give her a few Tips on how she can reduce her Carbon Footprint to as small as ours! One vehicle, shop once a week, cook most of our meals at home, move as job moves, donate to GoodWill, buy locally, yadayadayada.

I think the response from the woman is a typical thought when people see large RVs, or trucks, or even SUVs. It is a little surprising she went all eco-terrorist on you 
I would much rather try to enlighten these folks rather than just tell them it is my right to do what I want because I am an American. I think a lot of people just see a big RV and figure we are driving these around while running the A/C full blast on our 6000 sq ft home. Or that we drive these beasts every day and never sit in one place. Non-RVers don't really get the concept - especially the fulltimer concept.
I like to talk to people about it and let them know that I have made a significant decrease on how I impact our resources. I remind them that I only heat/cool about 400 sq ft of space. I tell them about how 100 gallons of water can last us a week, where the average household uses 100 gallons a day per person. My fridge is less than half the normal size, so I support local grocery stores and fruit/veggie stands - I don't load up at the huge warehouse monster stores that don't buy locally.
We also went from four cars and a house and a condo to one RV and a small car. I spend less each month in fuel because we are no longer commuting, but rather working from home. We use a waterless carwash product to clean the RV and Jeep. We use less water to wash clothes, dishes, and ourselves.
You can then ask them how that adds up on their scorecard
No matter where you are on the Green Thing, fulltime RVing consumes less. We use less resources, we have fewer "things", we live more simply. Isn't that essentially the Green Movement?

Humpf!!! And you expect me to believe all that when you are obviously driving a huge, expensive, self-indulgent vehicle that probably gets all of 2 mpg!! And you are probably enjoying yourself, too, aren't you? !!!!
Seriously, I would like to believe she could be educated but I sure wouldn't want to bet on it!!! A very high percentage of that type do no want to be confused with facts - their mind is all ready made up!

Never hurts to try. You might actually enlighten someone or atleast make them think a little. Ignorance can be overcome and most of it is just ignorance. As Diggin said, we fulltimers are really eco-warriors!!!

I have no idea about carbon footprint of home versus RV and I really don’t care either. But, I would venture to say it is smaller than the foot print of a MoveOn.org server farm or presidential fundraiser.
