A potential propane system leak is nothing to speculate about or fool around with; I suggest that the OP cut to the chase and have a pressure test done on the propane system at a reliable RV service center, and soon! YMMV.

I have to agree with the above poster! All the speculation could lead to a very unhappy result. If it IS a propane leak, you don't want to travel until it is resolved.

I like the poster who suggests you turn on the stove momentarily and see if it is the same identical smell. If it is, get the rig tested right away. JMHO

Travelling with an open propane tank is just too risky in my book. The tank has gas in the top and liquid in the base, while driving, it's completely possilbe for liquid to splash against the gas exit port.

Just taking a flammable fuel source and placing it in a state not found at rest is enough for me to say just too risky. You'll notcie that things that use propane for fuel and move (i.e. forklifts) use propane as a liquid fuel and not a gas.

If you are smelling propane, shut off the propane, disconnect the tank, and get to a service center now, not tomorrow, not after the weekend, now.

Few things in RVing are a hard immediate stop. A propane smell is one of them.

We had this problem and solved it by putting a strip of duct tape inside the vent door on the top louver. It doesn't have to seal the vent, just makes the edge longer. Kept the wind away from the pilot stack.

This was it..... We tried it for our past trip last week. Voila.... no smells at all. The DH covered 2 of the upper vent slats with duct tape. It was a success.

Glad you found the problem, rather than a propane leak.
