We will be fulltiming soon with our two Golden Retriever mixes that we unexpectedly brought home from a vacation in St. Martin 9 years ago.
Just curious if any of you have come across some exceptionally pet friendly campgrounds in say, Texas and Florida. "Pets Welcome" doesn't always mean what I consider it to mean. I would rather stay where "my kids" are actually welcome and not just tolerated.
Thanks for your thoughts.

One in 12 homes in the United States own RV's. Of those RVer's, 88% own Dogs. It would be finacncially irresponsible for a well ran, progressive and money making RV park to deny pet owners or set up unreasonable restrictions on pets.

Plus the extra pet fees cover the perceived extra work as far as the clean up (if the owner should be a slob!) and cover the additional insurance required.

I can't imagine camping without my family and extended canine family!

Some parks seem to have a restriction on how big a pet you can have. Some do charge more for a dog. You just need to ask when you make your reservations. Look for the ones with a "dog run" which helps you exercise your pets better.

Both Sunshine Travel RV Resort in Vero Beach and Pioneer Village in Ft. Myers FL have large fenced in dog parks on site. We really enjoyed having the opportunity to let the dogs play ball and burn off some energy. We have been fulltime for 8 years and have never come across a park that was not pet friendly but these two were great!

Thanks for your replies!
fordsooperdooty: You are absolutely right! (Love your smileys)
borntotravel: Yes, that is a good idea. I will definitely look for those.
BCDogMom: Looking forward to checking those out, since "the kids" are used to running around an acre.

I don’t foresee any problems traveling with your dogs. The only hick-up will be a few Parks who have a weight restriction/limitation rule.
However, there are enough Pet Friendly Parks out there, for you to just say thanks and drive on by.
Here are a few Web Sites that may help you in your travels;

When I find a Park to stay at, I check out the area for any large open fields or the like. Either walking distance or a short drive, to run the dog (now dogs…).
Since most dog runs I found, are not large enough. Plus your dog can pick up stuff in this area of the Park.

If passing through Carlsbad, NM, the KOA by Brantley Lake has fenced in dog runs so you pets can get some exercise. We always stop there on way from Texas to New Mexico or Colorado.

Thanks, Pops, great idea! And thanks for the links!
mehost: Thanks for the recommendation! We do want to get to NM at some point, as well. I see you are from SA. That is where we think we would want to put down some roots eventually. Looking forward to checking it out!

Here's what we have discovered - yes, some RV Parks go out of their way to accommodate dogs, but they're far and few between, IMO.
However: we have found that if we ask the staff if there's a place off-park (or a remote portion of the property) where we can run our dogs offleash for a few minutes.... many times we are told about some secret little spot where that can happen!!
Last week, while camped in FL, the nice lady at the check-in counter told of an open spot at the very back of the park that was out of sight and "shhh...don't tell anyone I told you that"....LOL!!
Of course, this all hinges on the fact that you have a well-trained dog with a bomb-proof recall...... but even if the dog isn't perfect at the "come" - at least you could run them on a 50' check cord, for example?

Hi Deb, That's what I figured would be the case about the good "pet" parks being far and few between.
Luckily my two are good about coming when called. We had a beagle that is now in "Doggie Heaven" that wouldn't come unless we had a piece of Liverwurst in our hand!
Thanks for your comments!
