I would be upset too - and I think I would fight it to the point they would have to go to collections to get anything from me.

I really don't like that smiley face company at all - I'm sure if they just stopped sending out dump truck loads of junk mail to my house they wouldn't have to charge you that kind of malicious fee - and I'm NOT even a customer. The only sin I ever did was buy an RV and Sam's Halo has never left me alone since.

I so agree with Mile High. Junk mail galore and I believe you should not pay the $50.00. Sounds like bad faith practices to me.

BKNU: Probably not worth the bother to you but my warped sense of humour would have me calling them and saying something like: "when I first went with you, you charged me a 'new-policy-fee' and it was explained as the cost of writing up the new poicy, and now you're going to charge me a $50.00 fee for NOT writing the policy"!

$50.00 bucks for pushing the "delete" button on a computer keyboard seems a bit extreme.

Well every policy I have had with many companies when I change something the prorated amount of new charge or refund is always short. Well that is because there is a "hidden" fee. They all do the same afaik.

I have never been charged a cancelation fee to change companies. I was with Allstate at one time and another carrier. I have been with Traveler's for a bit now and they treat me very well.

As far as GMAC cnnmoney.com just had a article stating they were thinking of another dip into the federal bailout cash. Shame on them but shame on us for helping them. I have my lease through them and they have very, very poor service (lost 2 payments in a little over 3 months, applied only a patial payment and so on...) Also, I have found they have sourced all CS to overseas locations.

It's getting bad out there.

GMAC is selling their property and casualty insurance business to American Capital Acquisition Corp.. They will no longer be in the insurance business. You can read about it on Bloomberg.com.

Don't cancel it, just quit paying it, then let them get their money somewhere else...I have a problem with all insurance companies, can't live with 'em and you can't live without 'em.

First, I would ignore everybody telling you "let it go to a collections agency" or "just stop paying". I don't see how screwing up your credit rating teaches them a lesson.

All I would do is exactly what you have done...get the word out. This is just a bad business practice if you ask me. People switch insurance companies at times and the quickest way to insure they never come back to you is to have a stupid policy like this.
