In 2007 I had a new and unopened large bag of Pro Plan "sensitive stomach" confiscated at Pembina ND. The dog food in question is salmon-based with no beef, lsmb or chicken in the mix. The bag was in bi-lingual packaging and used Pro Plan's Canadian address. I checked later and Pro Plan is made in the USA but packaged in Canada for Canadian consumption. Anyway, they confiscated the food because they were on a "no beef" campaign. When I pointed out to the Homeland Security person that there was no beef in the food her response was that it didn't matter as the manufacturers don't clean their bins between batches!

I had to get out of there quickly before I lost it, so I simply shut my mouth and handed over the $50.00 bag of food. We buy dog food and other groceries in the USA now after we cross the border.

They did want to see in the fridge and cupboards twice when we crossed the border this summer, both in ND and MN.

Enough proof for 'ya Centre Pin?

We've had our dog at Lake Erie State Park and Darien Lakes State Park with no issue. I am sure caching_campers can chime in on a few other parks. At Darien Lake SP we were asked to provide all documentation for our dog. On that particular trip we were not asked at the border, but we had paperwork anyway.

That is proof that you posted out dated information. The rules change often, I get them to fax me the current information before I go, and it is always changing.

I can't help you out with the border crossing concerns, but can offer the following.

Sampson State Park is a great park!!! There are about 250 campsites all with electric. I have the good ones written down in a list. Let me know if you want me to email it to you. It is in an excel spreadsheet.

They have a rec all with video games, minutre golf, plenty of playgrounds, bike rentals, etc. There is also a Navy museum on site.

Sampson State Park is a pet friendly park. The rabies tags are not enough. You need to bring the original rabies certificate with the vaccination expiration date on it.

Also, bring an extra extension cord. The power pedestals are shared between 2 sites so sometimes the distance from the pad to the power pedestal is quite a long way.

Enjoy your stay.

Oh, and BTW, the rules on dog food are that it has to be in a new sealed package that was made and PACKAGED in the U.S.

I have to disagree. Please provide proof of this statement.

I don't have any PROOF, other than this is what the Customs Agent told us when he siezed out dog food, and this is what was on the information sheet he gave us when I asked him about it.
We have been asked several times when crossing since this happened, if we had dog food with us once the agent saw the dog in the back seat.
