My Beagle (Jethro), is about 5 years old. Since he was a pup, he throws up if he's in a car too long. Like more than 30 min. Especially if he's in a crate in the back. But even when my kids keep him with them up front with a window down, he'll eventually throw up.
And I don't really like keeping him up front. Dog hair on my seats is bad enough, but I'm really worried about him flying around the vehicle if we are involved in an accident.
So does anyone have a solution for a Dog with motion sickness?

Our Jack Russell/Yorkie (10 lbs)gets very nervous - almost to the point of panic attacks - drools - etc when we take off in the MH. She is fine in the car.
We tried several things - including putting her crate on the passenger seat facing the front window and nothing seemed to help. Our vet said we could give her a Meclizine which is an OTC motion sickness drug for humans. She gets 6.25mg (1/4 of a 25mg tablet) a couple of hours before we leave. It calms her down to the point that she can ride in her crate without freaking out.
Check with the vet as the dosage would depend on the weight of the dog. I think once a dog gets sick in a car or MH - they associate the vehicle with sickness and it makes the motion sickness worse.
Good luck

There are several prescription medications and some OTC that have some efficacy also. Talk to your vet about doses for your dog.
I saw a journal article where lavender oil worked as a calming and anti-nausea treatmet. It was sprayed on a rag or towel then placed in the car.

Our 3 year old treeing walker coon hound has the same problem. We tried various medications from the vet and finally found one that kept her from getting sick: Cerenia
So far, it's the only thing we've found that keeps her from getting car sick.

I’m glad you started this thread. Will be following it, on our last trip in the Jeep. When I opened the back door, I saw that Calvin had chunked up his breakfast.

Our Beagle used to get car sick every trip. We tried everything prescrition and and folk stuff but nothing worked. She always wanted to go however. Finally just put diposal pads in her crate and took her anyhow. It took a year or so and many miles but she rarely gets sick anymore.

When Jimmy (Aussie/poodle mix) was a pup - he was prone to sickness after 20 minutes in the car...if I knew we'd be traveling, I'd pick up his food so he was riding on an almost-empty tummy and it seemed to help.
But it all seemed to pass with time - as he got more relaxed in the car, the sickness went away. He still has his quirks regarding the car, though - will only get into the car on the driver's side, for example....LOL!!

Maybe that's it. Since he got sick the first couple of times, I've really tried to limit is traveling. So maybe he never got comfortable.
I'll look into the medications and lavander oil. And start taking him on short trips around town. Thanks for all the replies.

You can get lavender oil at a health food store.
I've had good luck with Bonine as an OTC remedy. Check with your vet for dosage.
Most dogs will "outgrow" it if they log enough miles. In the meantime, try some remedies, and always travel with a washable crate pad, some extra towels, and some bath wipes.
