The locking steering columns went away in 2003 or 2004. Our 2000 has a locking column so I have to leave the key in at ON and remove the IGN0 fuse to turn off the dash lights and such.

When staying overnight with the Burb in tow I remove the key and hang it on the parking brake release in the coach so I don't forget to put it back in.

My 2008 Tahoe has the same driveline as your pickup. I put the transfer case in neutral, put the tranny in park, take the key out, and go. Real simple.

RonRV,

Thanks for your post. I appreciate your help. I realize I should have checked this already but unfortunately I got into a little bit of a hurry after making the deal to buy the coach. I'm planning on towing the Chevy 2500 either way, I'm just trying to make sure I can flat tow it and what I have to do to accomplish it.

I didn't know much about flat towing a vehicle when I started into this endeavour and I mistakenly thought the front wheels should remain locked straight. It is only since learning otherwise that I posted the question. Unfortunately, I'm currently in Maryland and the coach and truck are in Fla.

Again, thanks for your help.

On our 4 wheel drive GMC p/u we tow with the transmisson in neutral, pull the #1 fuse, put the shifter in park, turn the key off and remove the keys, lock the doors, turn the mirrors in and go. If you watch the truck when you turn left or right in the mirrors you will see the wheels turn l&R, our truck is a 2002 and we go by the manual, we also, b-4 we towed, checked with GMC and got a print out on our truck with this info, the same as the manual was written..
Good luck

OK. Thanks to everyone that replied. For the 2008 Chevy Silverado 4WD you place the transfer case in nuetral, the gear selector in park, take the key out and you drive. The steering wheel doesn't lock.

Thank you to all.

Glad it all worked out for you. Trucks make GREAT toads, no limit to the fun things you can do with a truck while traveling. We just brought a large meat smoker all the way back from Cabela's in Nebraska. Saved a bunch and it fit in the back of the truck with no problem.
