My husband has a question. Is there any product we can put in our toilet in our class c to keep the stuff from sticking ? Beside the chemicals to break down the stuff and deodorize is there any thing else we need for the septic system. Chemicals for receptors?

We just winterized this past weekend. Part of our routine is to thoroughly rinse and flush the black water tank. We do three things:

  • I attach our Flush King to the tanks and fill the black water tank to the brim and drain it. The Flush King lets me see what's going on.
  • I then thoroughly rinse the tank with a wand that has a spinning head on it. I saw lots of stuff come out through the Flush King during this step.
  • Use the Flush King to backflush. Saw just a little more stuff come out.

Of course, this take a bit of time, so we do it on a Saturday when the dumping station isn't busy.

Some people swear by dumping a bag of ice into the black tank on the way home from the CG on the theory that the ice will knock loose anything that's sticking.

What really works is to use LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER.

This is so true.

We've been fulltiming for more than 3 years now and we stopped using all chemicals after 6 months on the road.

So after more than 2 and a half years, all we've used is plenty of water and we have had no problems and no odors.

Water works!

First, I don't worry too much about what is in the tank.

Next use whatever chemical you like best to keep things in the tank in the tank.

Next, if you need a little help in keeping the bowl clean, use a hand sprayer (windex type) with water to spray the bowl down.

Make sure your take is full, if you want to dump and its not full of black waste, fill it with water then dump the tank.

Over time you will find a method that you prefer.

Calgon, is the best thing I have found, and of course lots of water. And only dump when nessary. When I dump our Black Tank, after the first dump normally and using the back-flush the second dump is almost clear and the third for sure. GBY......

I find that driving with a tank half full will break down all the solids. When I flushed mine last week there was no sign of solids. The flush had the water coming out clear in about a minute. I have heard of some using ice cubes while driving to get the tanks cleaner. My experience is that it makes the ice cubes taste bad.

bsinmich, that was just WRONG! You should never admit you tasted them!

(but I, too, have heard dump a bag-o-ice in and the drive home (or to the cg) will break up the "stuff".)

You might try a little spray Pam. If it doesn't work it will wash off with a little soapy water. Just athought.

Put about two caps of Calgon water softner in the tank with about 3 gallons of hot water, before your next trip, so that it will slose around and coat the inside of the tank, making it "slick". If its dirty inside, put two cups of powered laundry deteragent in at the same time and let it slose around also. its all I use, my guages have started working again, tank is cleaner, and hopefully no big issues, down the road. Hope this helps, John
