Some on this thread have suggested that Mullaly should take a pay cut also? According to this article he DID take a 30% cut!
This write up is by a Detroit area auto journalist, it is not Ford released propaganda but kind of sums up what some here have been saying.

Some people will NEVER get it. If you dont like the job or the pay, QUIT and go do what you want for what you want. What ever gave the Union the right to demand anything ? Oh yea, Jimmy did.
Wrong Ford and the rest of the greedy company owners did! Sorry you can thank the Unions for EVERYTHING YOU HAVE and here is why. If the Workers had not decided they were not going to work like slaves for poor wages in unsafe working environments you would not be where you are today.
The Union provides an avenue for the average Joe to make a livable wage so that their children could go onto Collage.
Do you think your parents could have afforded to send or help you send yourself to college had it not been for the Unions bring up ALL wages and providing benefits to ALL workers?
None of the wealthy business owners gave a rats ### about their workers or their families. They looked at the work as just a necessary evil that could be replaced at their whim. All they wanted to do was get richer on the backs of the worker! Do I begrudge an owner making himself rich NO, as long as they understand that without the worker they are NOTHING! BTW the second a company goes public they are no long a Mom and Pop business and are no longer the owners!
Now as far as CEO pay goes, sorry NO ONE should be entitled to that kind of pay! Why is it OK for upper level management to negotiate these contracts but the worker should not be entitled to a contract? Some of you are about as two faced as one can get.
The reason the transplant companies come to the USA is because they can get CHEAP LABOR! Do some research, as to what their workers get in their home countries and you will see the UAW worker is nowhere near them! Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes VW and all the others (in non third World Countries) have Union Contracts that make ours look sick. They get paid 100% even if they are not working (Jobs Bank), 6 weeks paid vacation day one, 1 to 2 years maternity leave for the Mother and 6 months to a year for the Father! Full Medical at no cost to them, Gym’s with built in swimming pools, sauna’s and on and on. So whatever if you think the Unions are so evil just think what this Country would be like without them.

I have to add a few more of my words of wisdom, it is not just the UAW, but all unions ingeneral. I feel our contry is being sold to other countries becouse our work force has priced them self out of work. If I owned a business, and my employes wanted to go union, I would shut it down and move to where the workers will work at a fair wage. It seems that the workers do not understand that if they want more $ then the consumer (us) will pay more or my new truck. If the wages were lower then the product could be marketed at a lesser amount.

Well the COE's are the ones ALSO gouging the companies and need to understand this concept too. We are not talking about the small business owner here, we are talking about publicly traded companies.

A supposedly wise man (I don't remember who) supposedly once said that "There is no way that the average worker making $10 per hour can afford to buy a vehicle assembled by a worker making $20 per hour!"
I think it was true when he said it, and I think it is true now.
As for the unions, as a former union member and non-union worker, and salaried exempt corporate slave, I have to wonder if we are truly any better off than our fathers or grandfathers were. Yes, the union got some benefits for the workers; vacation, sick leave, shorter work week, overtime pay, insurance, etc.. But then, they ran out of benefits to try for, so they started yelling for higher wages for the same or less work. This resulted in inflation, so they had to ask for even higher wages, which resulted in more inflation, so they needed higher wages, ad infinitum, ad nauseum.
I was once asked by a staunch union member who was preaching "strike" (the contract talks hadn't even begun at that time), if I would be willing to work in "THAT PLACE" for $2.50 an hour. He just couldn't believe it when I said "YES, of course, IF the cost of living was what it was when the average worker was making $2.50 per hour!"
My last job in aviation before I retired, I was making about $18 per hour, and we weren't living a bit better than we were when I was making $9 per hour. Inflation ate up all the increase!
So, the CEO is making $10,000 per hour. Do you know how many hours per week he (or she) spends on company business? You do realize he (or she) is "salaried exempt", and gets no time and a half for over 40 hours per week? Perhaps YOU should have spent several hundred thousand dollars on college, so you could put a MBA or PhD after your name, and perhaps you should have taken another road so you could be a CEO.
Success is NOT a crime, and it should NOT be punished!

Perrysburg Dodgeboy--
Its obvious you are passionate about your union and a few here have upset you but as my original post said I was not trying to start a union bashing post.
AGAIN my point was that the "union leadership" had looked at the big picture AND put together a deal that would in the long run help both Ford & the "UNION" !! BUT they failed to get the membership to fully understand the offer before they voted.
I bet if you think about it , there are some in your shop who as soon as they hear something they don't like in the wording won't take the time to understand it and rally the guys to vote it down??
I am neutral as far as unions go, my wife was in the UFCW Safeway union for about 28 yrs and a lot of my best friends are union workers at the local paper mill, some with the wrong attitude(in my opinion)
and others just regular honest hard working guys.
Everyone knows there are both types in union shops but in non-union shops the ones with the "screw them" attitude don't last, thats the difference as I see it.

One thing that gets me is a high school grad (maybe) that installs left front doors on a Chevy feels he should make substaintally more than a school teacher with a college education. Something is dreadfully wrong when we pay auto assembliers, bus drivers and garbage truck drivers more than we pay teachers and some college professors.

Personally I think the country would be a lot better off without them. While I agree a good worker should and does get paid a decent salary, how do you reconcile the wages a UAW worker makes as compared to the average salary of one with the same education and skill levels? I suppose you do not want to consider that. Come on dude, dont put your union brain washing on the unwashed public who does good to make 20 bucks an hour with out the fringe benefits that YOU DEMAND. Suppose you tell us what you make and all your benefits? LOL bet that dont happen.

mowermech,
Thank you for saying it so correctly, honestly, and truthfully. Very well spoken!
What the past and many present union movement's have really accompolished is to chase/cause their places of employment to file for chapter 11 protection, file for chapter 7 bankruptcy, merge, close, auction off, and/or as the majority have already done, move offshore! Ask yourself, was it really so intelligent to have artifically inflated the wages, benefits, and true per hour cost to the employers to be a "union" employee???? No jobs equals no paychecks and that's our future! The only winner has always been equalizing inflation and rising costs simply because you can't pull any free money out of the thin air. Water seeks it's own level and so does our economics, both personal and business. Punch a hole in the working water system and notice the water runs out. As you may have noticed, just like the inflated employee costs that have punctured our working environment system balance (the employers). Well, you don't have to worry your heads about it anymore as the jobs are going, going, gone and so are the paychecks and benefits you thought were promised for life. Not so funny now! Welcome to the REAL world it's created!!!
At least some humans on this planet are very happy and so pleased to have your job/jobs and be compensated much less for the work and effort they put forth. Notice, they aren't quiting and besides, there's millions right behind them to replace them if they did. Note!!! These new owners of your lost and gone jobs are the real winners now.
Read'em and weep....

Who the heck do you think owns these public companies? The GENERAL PUBLIC, and if you dont like the way the board members pay the management, BUY some stock, invest in the company, and do what it is you want to do. However, do not look for a UAW worker to run the company, as most have a hard time working 36 hours a week. Facts are facts and some just cannot believe them. So , you want to take the money from the people who INVESTED their hard earned money into your company, cut them out and pay it to the workers?
Have you considered Russia?
