Hi all,
I spent my childhood in a small town outside of Lake Placid and am feeling VERY nostalgic to head back up! Doesn't seem to be many choices of campgrounds in the High Peaks area. We're not interested in Lake George, which seems to have the best selection.
I found 2 we're considering. Jellystone in North Hudson and Magic Pines in Lewis. Anyone ever been to either?
We're planning a week or so next summer and our boys will be almost 2 and 3.5 so I know Jellystone really caters to the little ones. But Magic Pines is almost 1/3 the price so that's pretty tempting. And from the sad few pictures they have, it looks really pretty.
Any input is welcome!!!

How about the Lake Placid / Wilmington KOA or North Pole Campground? We've been to both and they are equally nice.

I have not been there (yet) but there is a campground in Old Forge as well (http://oldforgecamping.com/), it is close to a waterpark. We have friends in Old Forge and this is where I think my family will end up.
Of course there are DEC campgrounds scattered around the area as well, but limited services.

If you're interested in the Lake Placid area I'd suggest the KOA there. It's really nice with trails, a pool, activities for the kids, etc. We stayed there this summer and plan to go back next year when we can stay longer - they have a package deal to see all of the sights in Lake Placid and next time we'll do that. There's a lot to see and do there!

We've never been to the Wilmington KOA but have stayed numerous times at North Pole just down the street. The 100 Acre Woods side is fairly new and nice but they have a pretty severe cancellation policy.
For "dry" camping there are the Fish Creek / Rollins Pond DEC campgrounds.

The Lake Placid / Wilmington KOA would be our choice. We camped there before and it's a nice tidy campground with all the amenities.
We also have a seasonal not far from there at Ausable Chasm which serves as our storage lot.

Thanks for all the great recommendations! We'll definitely check out the KOA and the others. I think Jellystone is just too pricey compared to the rest...especially since we'll be on the road seeing sights and old friends during many days. We just need a nice site and a pool.
Anyone know the towns of Keene/Keene Valley? That's my hometown.

Keene/Keene Valley, home of the High Peaks. Been to JBL and backpacked a few of them before we got the HTT. Last I checked the Noonmark(?) diner was still there.
