I've just learned that the water line from my refrigerator crimped or became clogged causing extensive water damage to my rig flooring. When we realized during a recent trip that flooring was buckling we stopped using fresh water hookups and the washing machine. Nothing to indicate the fridge was the culprit

I think I understand that the mechanical fix to the fridge isn"t covered by comprehensive but would the damage caused by the water be covered? This is a typical big RV insurance company coverage

Thanks

Ask your insurance agent/carrier. No one here can say anything but their own opinion - correct or -more often-not.

It might be a time saver to dig out the policy and see what it says. I would never take the word of an agent alone. If they refuse coverage, they should show you the exception, in your policy papers.

So in your "OPINION", most of the poster OPINIONS are NOT correct. Is that the message you are trying to convey? Maybe you should just "moderate out" the incorrect opinions so we would always get correct opinions.

Tell us what your carrier says.

Now cruiserjs, were you just promoted from ATC?

The correct answer has to do with the claim handler's decision as the the "cause". If it was due to "deferred maintenance" than it isn't covered. If it was due to a sudden break, then it is covered.

Your original post implied the damage occurred over time. But, it appears you had no way of knowing the damage was occurring until it was "suddenly" discovered. Or, another way of saying it is "would a prudent person have discovered the cause and prevented a loss or prevented further loss (damage)"?

The claim handler should examine your coach's flooring and should be able to determine how long the damage was occurring. So, from this limited amount of information about the loss, it appears you should be covered. Good luck.

After 30 years in the business, I can say. I don't think this is a covered loss under the terms of Comprehensive provisions of a policy.
Most do not cover losses caused my "mechanical failure" or "inherent vice"

A Comprehensive loss is:
A loss not caused by collision includes:
impact with an animal(including a bird)
explosion or earthquake
fire:
malicious mischief or vandalism:
Missles or falling objects
riot or civil commotion
theft or larceny
windstorm, hail, water or flood; or
breakage of glass not caused by collision.

These coverages are controlled by the exclusions that include among many others:
wear and tear
manufacturing defects
improper or lack of routine maintenance, or failure to perform maintenance as prescribed the manufacturer.

More appropriately---"water leakage or seepage unless caused by any other loss covered."

This does not mean that you ought not turn in the claim after consultation with your agent--while many policy provisions are consistent from one company to the other, sometimes state law and common usage dictates that a claim denied by one company may be covered by another.

And I agree with cruiserjs, unless we have a local insurance person like Chuckster11, who is a professional in the insurance field. There are a couple on the forum. Othersise, the agent is best to ask. And I would still ask my agent. That is one of the things I pay him for. Not that I don't trust ChucksterII on this one.

Oh, I agree completely. I would have much rather had my customers (I'm retired) come directly to me for an answer to a question like the OP's than get advice from a forum. I see all kinds of claims advice here that make me cringe so I understand cruiser's comment.
