First of all, I want to say I'm a big NASCAR fan -- I'm also a LEO. I have seen first hand the tragedy and carnage drinking and driving can do. I've had to knock on a door in the middle of the night and tell a parent their worst nightmare has come true.
What's with these NASCAR drivers driving drunk?
Michael Waltrip in 2007. Wrecks his SUV, gives a sob story of how he fell asleep (riiiiiiiiiiight  ), and fails to report it - VERY likely because he's bombed at the time. Then he gets in another "at fault" collision where he blows 0.06. While not over the legal limit, you'd figure he'd have learned from his last run in. Then there's Jeremy Mayfield doing meth. My Gosh. I can hear the flushing sound for his chances at regaining a cup ride.
Now Allemdinger is driving at the legal limit, and says he felt fine .
I hope Allendingers career dries up and blows away, maybe RPM will make a smart move and kick him to the curb. I'm also glad big goofy Mikey's career is fading into nothingness too.
I guess I'm just frustrated. So many NFL players are ciminals, I don't watch them either (Micheal Vick makes me sick).
Quite the RANT I know, but I feel better now.

I feel the same way these are the people or kids look up to!!! I recall Robby Moroso and the path to stardom he was on in Nascar.

You forgot Kurt Bush and his little run in with the Officers in Phoenix I am sure there are more that got a ride, instead of the walk & blow, that we never heard about.

Its common. Many of these people have more $$ than they know what to do with and little in the way of personal responsibility to control themselves.
This is also nothing new. People have been getting bombed and driving, doing drugs and in general looking for ways to go zooted since the start of time. Its just put on every tv station and news paper now and we have a much larger population.
I fully expect to see pot legalized and heavily taxed over the next 20 years or so to help fill our national budget gaps. Stuff like this is becoming less and less taboo, like it or not.

We're just a bunch of hippocrits.....
It's OK to drive to the bar/club, and get drunk (it's legal). We all know that a bunch of drunks drive home. I did it twice,......or was that just a dream?
This country has a drug problem, or two. There's lots of things we can't fix.

Here is my take on this topic: These NASCAR drivers make enough money that they can easily afford a personal driver to cheaufer them from one drinking hole to another. I'm a business owner and cannot afford to lose my driver's licience. Therefore, I rarely have an alcholic drink in public and when I do, it is just one! That's right, either one glass of white whine or one Miller Lite beer. I think in the course of one year, I have a grand total of 24-25 alcholic beverages. IMHO, it just isn't worth the risk! Bagman.

Ever take notice to all the fans vehicles deadlined in the highway medians after the Charlotte races? As far as race drivers, for years the officers looked the other way, not now as well as other sports and walks of life. Check out Montana State Rep Greg Barkus's situation when he put his boat on a rock plateau beside Flathead Lake. Charged with three felonies, and now looking for his fourth judge. It' universal.
