Had to laugh as the above kinda reminds me of the story of a guy collecting money in England for parking for some big amusement park or something. On the job every day for 25 years. Then did not show up for a few days. Seems no one knew who hired him or he was to report to. And no one ever saw the money. Or ever saw him again. He is living a very good life someplace!
As far as the tunnel is concerned, a long time ago johnna told me about the way around from Hurricane over and is was not only easy driving but quite pretty. Done it twice.

While obviously some folks have gotten by being over 50', the folks are generally very strict about this restriction. The concern isn't really the tunnel itself but the narrow and windy roads especially on the valley side where the switchbacks could cause an inexperienced driver of a long rig to swing too wide and then it's a long, long way down for the poor soul on the outside edge.

I was told that the reason for the limit is that there are several turns in the tunnel and it is all narrow, and might be hard to negotiate for some drivers. A good driver could probably handle a longer rig fine, but not everyone is a good driver. One mistake could tie up the road for a long time. We all drive big vehicles and have to expect that sometimes we can't go where we would like. I appreciate that they offer the option for some large vehicles to go, even if it involves stopping traffic while they go thru the tunnel. The fee just pays for the employees at each end that stop the traffic.
Just chill out and enjoy the ride around the south side of the park. It's a wonderful ride!

You still can't go if your rigs total length is over 50', even by paying the escort fee. That is what the OP was trying to get across.
