This is why a used Class8 modified to be a toter is such a good deal.
$25k truck
$15k mods
Done for $40k, with 500,000 miles left in the driveline, for a toter designed from the get go to pull all day long.
The running joke in the HDT puller class is that we have them 'cause we can't afford a PU.

The starting price is around $25,000 and you can add whatever you can afford or whatever you want. That makes it the same as any other new truck but it IS a Ford so it's WORTH more

I bought my 2008 2500 QC Dodge Big Horn Edition loaded out with all but a GPS ( I have a Garmin 850), 4X4 auto and one year Sirius radio for right at 29K. That was last January. Works for me. JMHO Had a couple minor glitches, all fixed under warranty and is good to go.

Why I chose a F-450 over a modified class 8 HDT truck? Hope DIY Guy doesn't mind but I lifted the link from his webpage:
http://www.rvnomad.com/
I bought my truck with a warranty, and I opted for the extended warranty that I negotiated down to half the asking price. If you buy a used class 8, unless you are extremely educated in the workings of such a truck, you may have quite a financial ride ahead of you. I almost bought a converted Volvo from Mr. Larry Ziegler, I think another forum member bought the same truck Larry offered to me. When I looked into possible needed repairs over the life of the truck, for my needs it just did not make sense to go that route. Pluse I was looking for a dual purpose truck, one that I could use around the house that could also fill my towing needs. The 450 fit that need better than a HDT conversion.

Just bought a Silverado 3500HD Diesel DRW LTZ model. Sticker $55,000. Did not pay that much for the truck. Not by any means. Took a while of looking to get used to those prices, though.

Base sticker price on my 08 F250 was $45,799, with options came to $62,949. By the time we got done playing games with trade-in, rebates in lieu of 0% finance, discounts etc I have no idea what the actual price I paid for the truck was.

Yeah, go to the Ford website and build you a nice truck that costs more than my first home. Add any package you want. I think one of them has a full-time butler that hides in the bed and pops out when you need him to clean your leather seats. On the Tundra, you can add air conditioned seats (not kidding) if you want. There will always be those models that are out there on the fringes. I think they are fun to look at, but would never buy one.

BTW, I could care less what the monthly payment is. I only care about the actual price paid. Gives you way more leverage when you negotiate.

I built a truck on the Ford web site that was as close as I could get to my current 06 f250 xlt. The difference in sticker price was about 5k. My trucks sticker price was 42,950 vs 47,980. My purchase price for my 06 was 35,500.
