I would bet the Y tube is cracked, its a pretty common issue.

I hope it's a relatively painless experience for you.

One of the strangest fuel leaks I had was from one of those pressure sensors that's screwed into the filter housing. I think it's the low fuel pressure sensor, the one on the backside of the housing that points directly at the firewall. The sensor wasn't leaking at the threads, where you would expect it. It had developed a leak internally, and the fuel was dripping out around the threaded stud the wire hooked to. The leaking fuel was dripping down the wire harness, and eventually melted the insulation on the wires. It also ruined a rubber hose that runs between the bottom of the filter canister and the fuel pump. So to fix that, I had to buy the sensor, a filter wire harness, and several rubber hoses. That one was a little difficult to locate, and wasn't a cheap fix.

And yes, I'm very happy with my truck. I've owned it for about 12 years now. It had about 30K miles on it when i bought it, and it has about 187K on it now. I've put a lot of time and $$$ into maintaining it and improving it. It's a better truck camper hauler today than the day it rolled of the line.

BTW-the 1994 to 1997 F250's and F350's are affectionately known as OBS (Old Body Style) trucks by those that appreciate their styling. So, best of luck with your OBS!

What??!!!
The Power Stroke injector fuel is fed through passages in the head. Not individual lines.
The old IDI diesels had an injector pump with 8 lines.

There is a fuel line that comes off the fuel/water separator that leaks.

Excellent! Glad to hear your truck has been good to you (and you to it). Our RV service guy has driven mine a couple of times and always has nice things to say about it.

My truck and I have something in common, then, we're both OBS (though the truck is better looking).

You have a fuel leak. Look on top near the fuel filter. The line going into the head sometimes leak and the water drain on the fuel bowl.

I've had this same problem occure on all three PSD's over the past two years. It seemed that when they hit 7 years old you could smell diesel in the cab.

Rather than go to Ford and spend over $100 an hour decided to try TDS for some help. After trying the search option found plenty of posts with the exact same issue.

Here's what I learned and here's the fix for the most common problem anyways.

On the top of the motor under the PSD plastic badging is the fuel filter bowl. On the bottom side of that bowl were the filter sits in there's a yellow plastic lever which when turned one way will empty out the fuel in the bowl (this is the cleanest way to swap out the filter). The small o-rings on that fuel seperator valve will fail as they are in contact with diesel fuel. The research I did kept comming up with a Viton o-ring fix for a few cents. As my research continued I found you had to order a lot of the Viton o-rings in order to make a purchase. Got three myself but I don't need an extra hundred o-rings laying around. There were TDS members who were selling two Viton o-rings shipped for $5 which is all you need for the repair. The emails to these members never got returned so I decided to buy right from Ford. The kit Ford sells comes with the valve which you don't need and they cost around $40 per kit. My dealership is open until midnight so buying from them was a lot easier than off the internet.

My mechanic did the repair on the three PSD's but I have to tell you it looks like a very easy fix.

As far as leaking only the Excursion actually leaked diesel fuel which came out near the torque convertor cover which had me thinking originaly that my seal had failed and that the fluid was tranny fluid rather than diesel fuel (this is why I have a very good trusted mechanic!). The other two PSD's never leaked a drop of fluid out the bottom but you could still smell fuel in the cab.

This may not be your problem but if I had to bet my money would be on the fuel seperator 0-rings.

Other than this problem I have never had any other diesel fuel leak related issues with the PSD's and there mileage is, 174K, 204K, and 274K miles.

Same exact thing happened to me...smelled it when vent was opened. Look on top of the engine, down in the valley, and see if it is wet. If it is, you have the leak as described.

It's a couple hundred dollars, if you let the dealer fix it, or, less than 10 dollars and your time, if you fix it.

If only it were that simple. Of all the fuel leaks I've had to fix on mine, I've never had the drain cause any of them. I've had the filter canister off, torn apart, and put back together several times. I know it's a fairly common cause, and it could turn out to be the source of the OP's leak, but there are several others that are just as likely and some more so. Definitely can't make an If-Then statement out of finding fuel in the valley.
