jayknee wrote: Hubby and I are looking at small motorhomes. We have only a nine foot gate and only 9'5" top clearance because of a two-foot roof overhang so it really narrows us down to a van type.
We have been looking at some and the features are perfect for the two of us for just occasional road trips and trips to see family and friends.
The dealers near us are offering new units on short sale so it is a really good time for us to buy.
I worry since so many people including our neighbors have class A big fancy rigs will we get the stink eye at campgrounds because we arrive in a small unit??
We had a 32' new Wilderness TT years many years ago and loved the friendliness of campgrounds but wonder if that has changed with the times?

My experience with our Van is that folks are very friendly and curious to find out how much "stuff" has been squeezed into our "B". They watch us come and go 2-3 times a day with very little effort and we wish we had more room and they wish they were as mobile. Grass is always greener but it is about seeing our beautiful country and meeting great people. So as they say, it's how you use it that really matters. You probably wouldn't want to be around those snobs even if you had the same kind of rig. My class A is an older one, and they may think the same of me, but so what?

You will NEVER be discriminated against at "campgrounds" but it's not that hard for people to find an "RV Parking Lot" that will discriminate against SOME type of RV or another. Even THEN it's fairly rare though.

Hi Jaynee,
We just went through a similar situation, only our overhang(eave on the side of our house) was 9'3" and 16" wide. There's a thread on our delemma, see: http://www.trailerlife.com/cforum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/22456117/gotomsg/22462134.cfm#22462134.
We looked at B's, B+'s and small C's and settled on a 23'Winnebego Aspect(B+).
We learned a lot from poster, Ron Dittmer and the key was MH's built on the Ford E350 chassis's are 3" lower than the 450.
Prior to buying the Aspect, I made a no/go fixture out of a painters pole and a 16" stick and actually checked coaches. The specs usually included the A/C unit which is in the middle of the roof.
We're very happy with our choice.
Good Luck!

Our experience has been that a lot of folks in big fivers and diesel pushers always want to talk and look longingly at us when we just pull into and out of a campground. And, since we boondock a lot, they just can't go where we go. Envy is what we normally find in conversations. A lot of people get the big eye and the big rig and then just find they are not comfortable driving or pulling those puppies. We tried a 25 foot Class C for a few years and felt like we were driving a box of crackers eight feet wide and eleven feet high.

B's and A's have different agendas for the most part. It just shows what type of camper you are. The A's like to have everything with them to make it just like home. The B's are a little more spartan, self-reliant and are able to explore more.
Nothing wrong with either.

I drove a Winnebago LaSharo for years. It was great. Nearly got a Roadtrek 190 (love the 210) but a very poor dealer blew the sale. Ended with a 27 ft BT Cruiser. A bit bigger but narrower than a C and without the overhang. Works great for us and when they ask my size I always get a space. I love walking campgrounds and seeing how people make their systems work. From some really neat tent setups to minivans with the tent connected. The bigger the less creative. You will enjoy the new home that works for you.

Well, I'm a TT owner, but do enjoy lurking around on these other forums. So, anyway, here I am, and here's my opinion! You purchase what works for you and don't worry about what someone else thinks! Case closed! You should be making a purchase like this based upon what YOU need and what YOU expect out of your RV experience. We live in such a "keeping up with the Jones" world, it's awful! As long as you're happy, no one else should matter.

We encountered one "RV Resort" in eleven years that refused our small rig, so we found another one just down the road. No big deal.
