DH ran into the rear of another vehicle on his way to trade-in the 3500 for the F450. National Interstate knew we were FT, knew we had FL address and accident happened in N. GA. They paid promptly and without hesitation on our claim.
I would have the policy writer review the policy with me to see why an adjuster might deny the claim. Not all adjuster's are easy to work with!

We have National Interstate Ins. We live fulltime in the unit while still working. We retire in Jan and then hit the road. When we bought the insurance the agent clearly told us we would need to upgrade to fulltimers insurance should that occur. At the time we did not live in it.
Last year when we moved into the unit fulltime, I notified the agent. We then paid an additional premium of about $200.
I do hope they can get this settled but I would worry if I was in their shoes. Good luck.

Looks like a call to my insurance agent is in order.
Forgot that with full timers insurance - you get coverage like you would
have on your home for liability and medical bills, etc......
Does your 'regular' RV insurance cover things like that though, even if you
are NOT fulltiming? Accidents can still happen if you have friends going in
or out of the RV........Just a thought.

It appears to me , you are asking an insurnace company to cover something that YOU SHOULD have known was not covered. Kinda like sticking a gun in your mouth , pulling the trigger to SEE if it was loaded.
Amazing what people expect other people to believe today. Hard for me to comprehend that someone SOLD their house, now lives in an rv fulltime and did not know they needed diffent insurance coverage, yet expect someone to cover their butts, whent he stuff hits the fan.
I have had Natl Int insurance FULLTIMERS for over 5 years, had one claim for hail damage and was paid in a two week period. Do not blame an insurance company for doing what YOU paid them to cover and nothing else.

Greetings: While there are certainly variations between what different insurance companies put into their policies, most are quite similar. I would be VERY surprised if the claim you describe could be denied by ANY company, given the circumstances you describe. The additional charge that some companies add when you advise them you are "full-timers" has to do with Liability, not Physical Damage. The FT surcharge pays for providing Personal Liability that you would normally have on your Homeowner policy, but since the home is sold, the coverage is gone unless you get it on your RV policy. I would recommend that your friend actually READ the policy, particuarly the section named EXCLUSIONS. Anything that would cause this claim to be denied should be listed there. I'm an insurance agent with 23 years experience and have insured many RV's over the years and have never heard of such a thing in a situation like this. Tell this "adjuster" that you want to speak the company Claims Manager or Supervisor and to show you specific policy language that allows for this claim to be denied.

Full-timing is based on the declaration of full-timing. My insurance (National Interstate) has never mentioned travel mileage.
“This case sounds very weird in that these people have just sold their house in August and two months later had an accident and now no payment based on the full-timing issue. It should take a lot longer to establish full-timing than two months.”
Again, if you have no stix n brix, and do have a fifth wheel in which you are living full time, you are full-timing.
My previous company, State Farm (for over thirty years), did not offer insurance appropriate for full-timers. The primary difference is in liability coverage. If you have a homeowners’ policy, therein lies your basic liability coverage. Liability for the RV comes attached to your auto policy. Thus, if you have no homeowners’ insurance you need the full-timer’s insurance for liability coverage. This is also the reason for the higher premium.
National Interstate is a well-established and well-known company. They’ve been around for twenty years.

I can't help you with any insurance advice, but wanted to pass along my thoughts to your sister. What an awful intro to FTing. You didn't say, but I assume that they are OK, just property damage? I hope this all gets straightened out as quickly as possible, so she can continue with FTing and taking care of patients that need her. She will be in my thoughts. Kathy

Fixedblade.............perhaps you have discovered a cheaper way for me to insure my home, er fiver.
BUT..............
Having not had home owners coverage for many years, It was always my IMPRESSION that homeowners coverage simply extended the coverage to your rv, and did not cover it individually. In addition, I THOUGHT that a percentage of your coverage of your house was limited to that on the rv. Now if you do not have a home , therefore no homeowners policy, what policy would in effect and offer coverage? Or do you ASSUME that the insurance company reads your mind?
Sluggo.......fulltime insurance does cover 100% comp damage and is the only insurance that fulltime insurance covers. Liability is only while moving down the road. Fall on your neighbors front step on his fiver and if he is a fulltimer, try collecting IF he doesnt have liability insurance extra. There in lies the difference in premiums for fulltimer vs homeowner insurance. Why do weekenders write seperate policies on their rvs? Comp coverage.

You did see that my topic said "HELP" right? I'm trying to get help for my sister and she is as honest as they come. She told the agent what her needs were and this is the policy they were sold. They have only been rv'ing for about 2 years. She's had enough bad stuff going on without people like you getting in line to kick her while she's down.
