I will be in Pleasant hills California off the 680 and need to go to 395 to get to bishop Ca. Suggestions on how to get over the sierras. Towing a 32ft.cargo trailer with my jeep inside. On vacation so no hurry.

Also anyone familiar with Pleasant hills as far as maybe a truck stop or someplace to park overnight? There are no campgrounds in the area and I have living quarters in the trailer . Unfortunately attending a funeral for my nephew who died in a car crash Sunday night, need some help with information, much appreciated in advance..

Sorry to hear about your nephew. I don't know the Pleasant Hill area, but you might check for a WalMart. I would take 680 down to the 580 east and then take 88 out of Stockton over the sierras to 395. I think the pass is still open as no major storms lately. That will put you onto 395 at Minden.

Of course, the shortest way is thru Tioga Pass, if it's still open. 285 miles according to TL Navigator.

North route thru S Lake Tahoe, would be about 384 miles.

South route thru Mojave, would be about 515 miles.

Never been to Bishop or thru Tioga Pass, so I can't help you with that route.

I just checked and Tioga Pass is currently OPEN.

88 is open all year, with the exception of closures during major storms. Those closures do not last long.

Thanks for the replies.I checked with local walmarts and they are not permitted to have overnighters, something to do with who owns the parking lot. The 88 out of Stockton is it a pretty good road over the pass ? Little woman tends to get the dizzies sometimes.
Thanks for the kind words about the youngster..

Brannan Island State Recreation Area in Isleton. There are also a couple other Delta area parks (Sugar Barge, etc.) if you do a search. They're about 30min from Pleasant Hill, if there's no traffic. I can't think of anything closer. Not a good area for RV parks.

Benicia State Park has enroute dry camping, it's off the 780 about 5 miles (7 dollar bridge toll for truck and trailer) from Pleasant Hill, I think it's 12 dollars a night (may have gone up) It has a tricky entrance and can be hard to find. If you decide you want to stay there let me know and I'll help you find it.
