but after reading some of the "reviews" here, hasn't installed it yet. He was leaning toward the P3, but it's twice as much as he's already shelled out. Ha called around, and can't find a P3, or prodigy local. And since he's heading out Friday, it's getting tight. He has pulled his 26' Sunny Brook 267RL on two 150 miles runs without a BC, without problems, but knows he should have one. He googled brake controlers, and came up with other brands - Valley, Hayes, Hopkins. Any opinions?

As far as I know there is no brake controller out there that is as unfussy, user-friendly, and easy to set up as a Prodigy or P3...

So what's wrong with the Voyager? I've been using the same Voyager for over 7 years now with both my current trailer (50,000 miles) and my previous 25 foot trailer (40,000 miles) and it's never given me a problem of any kind.

I'm with Skip. While we have only had ours a couple of years, it works great. No Voyager problems here.

The voyage should be OK. It is still a proportional controller, just a very basic one compared to the other Tekonsha proportional controllers. It doesn't have the diagnostics, the boost features, or reverse operation. It also only has a 5 year waranty instead of lifetime like the other Tekonsha controllers. PLEASE INSTALL SOMETHING before your friend goes on another trip! It is very danderous to pull that much weight without trailer brakes, regardless of the tow vehicle capabilities, and here in the US it is illegal!! With no trailer brakes, it would not take much to end up with the trailer passing the tow vehicle and pulling it around.
By the way, some of the other brands are just relabled Tekonsha controllers. Tekonsha is the biggest electronic brake controller company for good reason.

just some of the comments I seen that they were always having to re-adjust the settings on the Voyager controller.

Yes, I have an opinion.
ANY brake controller would be better than what your 'buddy is doing now..

I have to spend a "half a second" turning a dial once or twice a day but being retired I've HAVE that much extra time. For what it's worth the SAME kind of adjustment is frequently mentioned when using Prodigy and most other controllers. If I find myself driving very slow (like through a campground) the brakes can be a little grabby but at normal driving speeds no adjustment is necessary. Good luck / skip

There is nothing wrong with a voyager. There is nothing wrong with an Activator II either. But there are better controllers for not too much money.
I think there is still much inventory on shelves of dealers so they push for clearance. They too know Prodigy and P3 are superior.
But I would still make the investment in a MaxBrake or BrakeSmart for the long haul.
