You should consider a netbook. It doesn't have the same computer capabilities as a laptop, but for your purposes it would be fine. It's smaller than a laptop and you can get one cheaper.

Really, for your intended use, any inexpensive notebook, laptop or desktop will be fine. I'd shop price.

The lower cost netbooks do not have a CD or hard drive which will not support lots of movies and similar storage requirements. However, you should get all of the other goodies including a network card. Just do not let the salesman sell you stuff you do not need. I have seen them as low as $200. Probably will have to shop for that low of price.

I just bought a great laptop at Staples for $350. DVD burner, wi-fi, Windows 7, and a nice screen. Excellent price for a laptop. It has 3GB of ram. Not great if you want to run a high speed game but for normal use it appears to be excellent.

That's quite a deal. A friend just bought one for the high $400's!
