Hey Jim, went and got an in-line fuse holder, a switch, had some wire, cut a fuse up and soldered the blades on the ends of the wire, put wire loom on, mounted the switch, fastened the wire down with wire ties and we're done.. Been wanting to do that ever sense we got the car and hooked it up that first time..

We have been pulling our HHR for several months and 10,000 miles with no problems. Works great, easy to tow, and actually fun to drive.

Tow that HHR and enjoy.
If it were up to Consumer Reports, this country would be renamed The United States of Japan. Getting back to reality, I always check with owners, such as those on this site as well as my own judgement instead of the bias by a "geek with a pen" (i.e. Consumer Reports). Too bad that most Americans today believe everything they read and only half of what they see. I love my HHR and haven't had a stitch of trouble with it.

Been pulling my HHR now for over 2 years. No problems. I quit pulling the #8 fuse after the first couple times contorting myself into the floorboard to get at it. Mostly tow within a couple hours of home anyway. Any trip over a few hours, I just plan to stop at a rest area and start the HHR up while waiting on DW. With the rear seats down there is a huge space to put all kinds of camping gear and other stuff, like grandkid riding toys.
I also use my HHR as my daily driver, about 40 miles round trip 5 days a week. Get an average 24.5 MPG, and have gotten 33 MPG straight highway driving at 65-70 mph.

Just started pulling my 08 HHR this summer. I put a switch under the steering wheel on mine. As sometimes when traveling it may be 3 days before I unhitch it or even start it up.
There has been some problems with the earlier 07-06 models with rotor & brake problems. That is about the only thing that will show up on a search on problems with them.
I traded up from a 98 Tracker that I bought new and didn't tow. Only bad thing is, I heard that 2011 was going to be the HHR's last year being built. And I won't be needing another one until maybe 2018. By 2018 I should have almost 70,000 miles on this one.
I drive it more then I did the Tracker. It had 55,000 miles on it. The Tracker is now, my soon to be 16 year old Granddaughter's car.

Well I took the HHR out for a test run yesterday. It pulled great. Had it up to 65 mph. Also tracked well around corners.
I hate to say this but am now thinking about a suplemental brake system for it. Seems to be no end to spending money on this project. The former tow was a 95 escort that weighed only 2400 pounds but the HHR weighs 3100 so the consideration. I will be scanning prices and opinions of others on this forumn.
