An often overlooked resource for WI camping is the many county parks available. These are often not listed in the major campground directory listings. The best way to find them is a web search for the specific county. The county campgrounds offer the same services as the state parks but are not in such heavy demand and have far more electric sites available. Most charge $20/night for an electric site and a discount for a stay of five days or more. Like the state parks most do not have on-site sewer and water. The more popular state parks have reservable sites which might require booking a year in advance. Some county parks will take reservations, the others work on a first-come, first-served basis, drive in, occupy a site, and it's yours until you decide to leave. The overall quality of the county parks is excellent.

Live there, camp there. I'm just not going to post about it because it's hard enough to get sites in our state parks as it is! I'm not going to tell others about the ones I like. But to the poster who mentioned Rocky Arbor, you can camp there all you'd like, it's NOT on my "like" list! We have a LOT of nicer ones than that!

My daughter and her family live in Neenah, WI and like to camp at High Cliff SP. I've driven thru the CG, and it looks like a nice place.

The only CG we've stayed in WI was the KOA in Wisconsin Dells. Nice place but busy, busy, busy. We had a site near the RR tracks - didn't bother me but our neighbors in the pop-up in the next site were not as thrilled. Also, it ain't cheap.

I'm not sure where you are at in Wisconsin, but as far as camping goes, state, county, public, private, rustic to full service we have it all, tempuratures that are hard to beat and a pretty decent camp season. Most years, if you like you can start in April and camp until November.
Being just a few miles out of Madison, WI (90 degrees W. 45 degrees N.) I have over 25 campgrounds within a one hour drive. I have told visitors - "base camp near Madison, drive an hour in out in one direction or another and you can find something to do or see every day for a year!"
If you are wondering, we camp many times into November in T-shirts and shorts (yeah, we're a little nuts, but then we are from Wisconsin...)
