Feds state Toyota's Recall info is "Inaccurate and misleading!"
"NHTSA has told Toyota and consumers that removing the recalled floor mats is the most immediate way to address the safety risk and avoid the possibility of the accelerator becoming stuck," said the NHTSA statement. "But it is simply an interim measure. This remedy does not correct the underlying defect in the vehicles involving the potential for entrapment of the accelerator by floor mats, which is related to accelerator and floor pan design."

Well, I would not like this issue, but I like it a lot less for all the WH chassis owners with some serious brake issues that keep getting put off. Thanks for posting this, maybe the next verbal spanking from NHTSA will involve that issue. Good Luck to all who have either of these problems, before a serious incident.

I still can't understand WHY he couldn't have just TURNED THE IGNITION OFF or put it in NEUTRAL! If there was enough time for a call to 911 to be placed, there was time to kill the ignition! I still think there's more to this. JMHO

Owning one of the Toyota's in question, I tried to duplicate the problem and couldn't. I have the factory carpeted floor mats and have a lightweight all weather floor mat on top, both hooked to the floor mat hooks that keep both mats far away from the gas peddle. I unhooked the all weather mat and tried everything possible to get it to jam the gas peddle and I couldn't.
If it was a heavy all weather floor mat like I had in my jeep, that thing would be like putting a brick against the gas peddle and I can see where that could cause a problem. However, if people are dumb enough to drive with a floor mat tangled up in their gas peddle...........well

I agree. In ALL the cited accidents in one video I saw, there was time to shut the ignition off, or put the vehicle in Neutral.
Could it be that there is some kind of a "safety" interlock that won't allow the driver to do either of these things while at highway speeds?
I have never owned a Toyota, and I don't think I will be buying one any time soon!
Actually, come to think of it, that is a meaningless statement, since I have no intention of buying ANY vehicle at the present time!
