Cool...
I guess 81 to 40 etc.. Is good...That rock slide doesn't come into play that way...
How about 95 to 20 ?
And Hills are ok ( I think) The Rv feels like it has a little power...Though downshifting alot I'd bet..

For those who like I-40, and for those who do not want hills: beware the elevation (that is, hills mean nothing if you're at 7,000 ft and a storm rolls in), and watch for traffic and tie-ups at tolls (that is, I'd take a hill on the 81 over the traffic on 95 anyday). Also, in Arizona we have a saying; if there is a storm anywhere, it's in Flagstaff - Flag).

We just came I-80 to Salt Lake south through UT and its a pretty good route.
Dont know exactly how they are doing it, but in NE and WY and some in UT they are smoothing the cement roads. Seems like grinding down the separations so they are really smooth. Never had any difficult grades most seemed like gradual climbs headed west and only one downgrade with curves. There was one climb in WY over 7000 feet, but our old 1984 Allegro had not problem.

Not sure why some say don't take I95 ? Bridges? I drove that once 20 years ago, going to florida... Seemed ok then. Traffic, traffic and more traffic. And condition of road surface in some locations.

I-81,40,30,20,10 was good driving the last time I drove it, no steep grades that I can remember. I-81 was a beautiful drive through the Shenandoah Valley. I've driven all this route except the section of I-20 between I-30 and 10. I came home from Seattle down I-10 from Blyhe CA to US-290 east of Junction, TX in 2006, different landscape in each state, had no problems except for strong winds around FT. Stockon TX due to a cold front pushing through,(Nov 2006)--------Have a great trip-----------John

Ok, 81-40-30-20-10 seems to be the route...
How about some touristy stuff? All we have is graceland and panning for some diamonds somewhere...
We have as long as we need or want to get to the southwest...
what did people like?
Maybe there is nothing to see? Besides the countryside?

Head as far south as you can to I-10 then head west. You can travel along the gulf coast on 10 and even on good roads south of 10. Places to see: seafood to eat; Pensacola Naval Air Museum; New Orleans - the big easy is great; Houston Space Center; seafood to eat; anyplace along the gulf coast area in TX.; did I mention seafood along the coast?; jump up to San Antonio and the Hill Country - lots to see in those areas; take Highway 90 over to Del Rio and then over and down to Big Bend NP; take 10 on through El Paso - great place to get cowboy boots from the factory outlet stores; on into NM and Arizona; Brisbee and Tombstone before you get to Tucson.
Oh, and what's the matter with seeing the country side?!?
That's why a lot of us have an rv and travel!!
This route keeps you out of the mountains even though you will be climbing steadily up from the gulf coast into Arizona. Shouldn't haave any problems with snow or freezing weather.
Good luck and enjoy your trip.
