Don't know if this is the right forum, but here goes......the hospital that I am currently employed as an ER nurse, just discontinued the retiree insurance benefit. That means, if DH and I are going to be able to "travel", it looks as though I will have to work while doing that. At least for the next 5-7 years. Any of you travel nurses out there, I would appreciate feedback. Agencies that are recommended, and the ups and downs of travel nursing.

Thanks so much.

Hey there!

DH just got an assignment to NM. Things are beginning to pick up - for awhile there was little available. The companies we most use are: TRS (the right solutions) TVL, Nightingale, Teamstaff RX. Our recruiter at TRS is Anita Counts and she got us this assignment. Dawn Brown at TeamstaffRX is very professional, too. If you need any other help that we can give, just pm us!

I'm not a nurse nor is Karen, but while we were travelling out west last year, we saw a ton of signs at clinics and hospitals advertising for nurses and health care professionals and most offering sign on bonuses. Got both of us talking about going back to school....... ;-)

My spouse is a travel nurse and mostly works for TRS and Areus Medical. When neither agency has a position where we want to go we just go there anyhow and she gets a job on a per diem basis. Any ups and downs? No just ups.

I have a friend who is a nurse & he goes down to AZ with the snow birds then plays the the other half of the year. He does not live high on the hog but he does have a lot of fun, he has been doing that for over 20 years.

We've been full-timing and doing travel nursing for 3 years now. We've been from Fl to Seattle and from Tucson to Maine and have never regretted our jump into this lifestyle. I have used NovaPro for 3 years and Kristen Hunt has always gone out of her way to find the nearest campground, the closest lab corp., and where I might need to get fingerprints for the necessary licenses. I get travel reimbursement, housing and living allowences, and reimbursement for licenses or manditory certifications ie: ACLS, BLS, or PALS.

well.......I have actually submitted an application, but Ilm having a hard time getting past the job security thing. That seems to be the only downside. What do they do about insurance in between the 13 week assignments ....if there is a gap?

We've been travel nursing for going on 4 years now, no regrets, love the lifestyle. Currently using VA Travel Corp, strictly VA assignments. Don't hesitate to contact any hospital HR department directly, bypassing the agencies, to see if they have "seasonal" positions....this has worked for my wife. With the return of the snowbirds, I would think the Texas RGV would have many seasonal positions open. For a traveler, the monthly publication: Healthcare Traveler is a good one to subscribe to, many agency advertisements.
As for insurance, we buy our own policy.

Good luck
