Just about 19 years ago a very small calico cat appeared in our neighborhood in Michigan. It was January with snow on the ground and it was cold. I put out some food for this very wary young cat, and after about a week, on a Saturday morning I opened the door and stood back and let the warm air rush out. She looked at the food inside and carefully walked through the door to the food. Once inside, it was 5 months before she would venture out again - when the door opened she would dive under the hutch cabinet - a space just her size. Today we had to say goodbye to her. We feel lucky that Kit was part of our lives for all of these years and that she got to spend 3 1/2 years fulltiming with us crisscrosing the country. I know that I will miss her little meow in the morning letting me know that she wanted her breakfast because there was a hint of daylight out there. And I am sure that our other cat (Shadow) will also be looking for her in the days to come. How Shadow knew, I'm not sure, but when it became obvious that Kit was going downhill very rapidly, Shadow went out of her way to walk around her, didn't try to sit in Kit's place on the couch, etc. It was with a very heavy heart that we agreed that it was time to make sure that she would not suffer and we let her go.

When ANYONE comes into this life we KNOW we'll be going out again. Your pet had a very nice long life and I'm better was very happy. Who could ask for more than that. It's never easy to let them go but it's MUCH better than never having had their company. My condolences. / Skip

Oh, Barb....my heart breaks for you! My kitty has been with me for 16 years and it will be devastating when she leaves.
What a love story with your Kit -- 19 years of love and devotion -- from you and from her.
Thanks for sharing Kit's story. And please take care as your heart slowing mends.

Wonderful story about a beautiful cat. Be comforted knowing you gave her 19 years of love.

Dear Miss Barb, I am sorry for your loss. I had to put down our 15 year old black Lab camping buddy Tuesday. It has been a bad week out here also. Toby loved to camp, we are on the road without him next week. We certainly understand.........Joe & Cathy O.

Thank you everyone, and Joe & Cathy, our thoughts are also with you this week. This is something we all know will happen, but it is a sad few days when it comes. Again, thanks for your very generous good wishes.
