i'm using a repeater without the antenna... Their own firmware i believe is an altered version of DD wrt..

I got the linksys router with installed DD WRT off of ebay for $25... You can get a brand new buffalo router for about $60..

I am. I am a techno geek as well. Not all that great in operation. I have used it successfully and lit up my MH area but it can be frustrating to use if not impossible sometimes. I prefer the super wi fi antenna system for ease of use and performance. I will try to find and include the link.

Save your money.

A Linksys WRT54GL or a WRT54G-TM can be found for around $45 and the firmware is free of charge from www.dd-wrt.com

It's pointless using it with a onmi directional antenna - get some sort of directional so you can point it to get the best signal strength - I love the Cantenna for it's performance but there are many out there to choose from - any of them is better than an omni.

For about $90 you can your own system and as you will be doing the small amount of work yourself it will help you understand what's going on and how to get the best out of your WiFi.

Hey Alex (from th 3gstore)

Is there a "wifi booster" solution yet that will utilize the Cradlepoint MBR1000?

Your knowledge and input is respected.

thanks very much for the flattery!
staff has spent over nine months reviewing many different wifi bridge options
our wifi bridge solution should be written up and announced in about two weeks.
it ships with 5 dBi high gain omni antenna, and a 15 dBi directional antenna is optional.
its a brand new model from an established manufacturer, and we'll have it first.
FYI, our most important criteria for selecting a wifi bridge was the ease with which we can support it for the RV community.

I'm using a homemade version of the above it works so well. I'm a HUGE fan of DD-WRT firmware.

Linksys WRT54GS V4 router
Flashed firmware with DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) mini
(SVN revision 13064)
Set as a Universal Wireless repeater
Then to repeat any open network added the script AutoAp-DD-WRT using Jffs to call up the script
The antenna can be bought or built. I use Home=Brew 6dbi Collinear Antenna

This is a good write up on doing basically the same in a RV application

And for killer performance The WiFi Predator

I have that same Hyperlink 14.5 db directional antenna connected to a Alpha AWUS 036H USB adapter. We use Satellite TV so I cut the batwing off of its mount and mounted the Hyperlink antenna onto it with a mount I built having a R/C model radio servo to control vertical tilt. Works great.

company i work for is now selling the pepwave surf as our "wifi as wan" solution.
with a tipsheet we've prepared, customers will find it easy to use campground wifi as an internet source for their cradlepoint routers (that have an ethernet port)

using the pepwave surf this way means no network settings have to change on any computer already associated with the cradlepoint router.
