Dometic unit. Sometimes I can clearly hear the compressor stop but the fan continues to run. That would seem to indicate the thermostat is not the one shutting down the compressor.

Seems to cool just fine and when the thermostat is satisfied it does shut down the compressor AND the fan.

Any ideas as to why the compressor would cycle off before the thermostat setting is reached?

Time delay off and on. This lets the fan milk a little more out of a cold evap coil.

And mitigates the start amps when the comp and fan don't start at same time.

You need to state Model/year of RV and Model of AC (Heat Pump or just an AC also) and if you have a wall tstat and a built in EMS (Energy Management System). The time delay on a Dometic will NOT cause your problem.

IF you have a Freeze Thermister, then IT may be shutting down the compressor, which is normal.
You may have a EMS system that shuts down the compressor when an amp overload has happened. Some EMS systems are wired to shut down the compressor ONLY instead of the complete unit. Doug

Freeze thermister is what I was thinking too. I don't know why RV manufacturers think you can take a 10"x10" AC outlet and restrict it down to two 3"x5" roof ducts and not expect to reduce airflow to the point of evaporator freezing. They put plenty of openings in the ducts but they are still 3"x5" ducts.

If it was some kind of designed in time delay it would be consistant and happen even when the thermostat is satisfied. As stated in the OP, when thermostat is satisfied, both compressor and fan shut off at the same time.

No EMS or heat pump present.
