We NEVER use normal screws to mount anything on the walls unless there is a backing behind the wall. MOST items can easily be mounted with Command strips which means they can also be removed easily with no damage done. for items that are meant to be PERMANENT then using Toggle bolts on a hollow wall works just fine and NEVER comes down or strips the hole out. Good luck / skip

Ditto. We've used Command strips with success. Trailer walls are just not set up to hang things using traditional home methods.

Hope it's ok to add my question in this thread as it has to do with fastening things to the wall. I need to put up two corner shelves in the bedroom just above the head of the bed to hold my wifes and my cpap machines.
Is it possible to buy the faux panel sticker covering that goes on the pressboard that is used in the trailer cupboards, so the shelves look like the rest of the rig? Or am I better off buying a pre-made corner shelf that sort of matches the interior paneling.
These will need to be mounted pretty securely as the cpap machines do have some weight to them. Are toggle bolts the best way to go? I am familiar with residential toggle bolts that use the spring action wings and long screw/bolt. Do you use the same type for the rv except with a much shorter screw to accommodate the thin wall thickness?
Thanks

I did it on my last TT and just finishing it on my new one.
I added three bathroom towel racks, and a five foot long clothes hanging rack.
I make up oak backing plates that match the original ones that came with various things in the TT. Then I glue these to the wall using two brass screws that are just long enough to penetrate the thin wall paneling.
Naturally I drill holes in the oak backing plates for the screws, but I don't drill any pilot holes in the wall. I put a coating of glue on the back of the backing plate and then using force screw the screws into the wall paneling. All the screws are doing is acting as my clamp until the glue dries. the reason for using brass is for attractiveness.
The next day after the glue is dried I can then screw whatever I want into the oak backing plate.
I have used this exact same method to install shelf cleats to all our wardrobes to convert them to shelves, but naturally I don't use a backing plate. Just the wood strp shelf cleat and el cheapo screws.
Not a one has ever come off the wall in our first TT which had over 30,000 miles on it including many rough roads in Alaska.

I use self threading hex or phillips screws on anything that hangs. It is a mobile unit so if its heavy I find a stud for longer screws to hold the weight. Glue or sticky tape can mare the wood panel finnish. A screw hole can be filled or repaired easily. I've added coat hangers all around the bath room for wet coats/jackets/etc.

Yeah, the command strips work great until the wallpaper pulls away from the wall! This happened to us this summer when we were using a command hook for our broom. The wallpaper bubbled and stretched away from the wall about the size of a golf ball and I smoothed it out the best I could but you can still see a small wrinkle. I would advise against using them for anything if you are using them on wallpaper. Oh and we have and '08 Jayco Eagle.
