We have a 5er that we keep in storage except when we get a chance to use it. Recently, when I went over to work on the RV exterior, I noticed that there was water on the bathroom floor and around the roof vent cover. I cleaned up the floor and went onto the roof to wipe off the vent cover (both outside & inside). When I checked the bathroom today, I again found water around the vent cover and on the floor. Any suggestions as to my course of action ? Do I need to replace the rubber seal around the perimeter of the vent or the vent cover itself? I can't see any cracks in the cover. Appreciate any advice you folks can give me.

I would suggest Maxxair or Camco vent covers. This allows you to leave the vents open, prevents sunlight damage, and prevents water from entering.

Are you sure it's the vent itself? Lots of times leaks are many feet from where the water finally enters the unit. Have you checked the roof sealant for damaged areas? You can't assume it's from the vent itself.

There are a few options here.. First I would inspect the vent.. Make sure the cover is not cracked or broken, make sure the caulking around it is secure.

MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WATER IN THE WATER LINES in the rig

It may be coming in the window too.. Just so you know.

Used to do leak detection as part of my job as a roofer (on houses, not RV's)

Some of 'em were......interesting.

We had the same problem. I used Eternabond to seal around the vent as we did not have vent covers. It rained several times after using Eternabond and no leaks. I have since installed vent covers.

Just keep in mind that if you get a BLACK cover, it makes your bathroom pitch black. Not cool. I am not a happy wife now. DH picked black because he thought it would weather better and not turn yellow. He also thought it would block *some* of the eternal sunshine up here in Alaska. It blocks it all. We now have to turn on a light everytime we use the potty - boys especially...

If the vent is closed, there is no way that water should come in. You probably have a roof leak, get it fixed before you have a rotten roof deck.

If the vent was open, either close it or put Max-air covers on.

get covers, but you also may want to look at the thought of condensation, we have had this happen to us before, it happens quite a bit in the south.
