The way we use: I-90 to Garrison, Mt. (Exit 175) get on US 12 to Avon, then 141, thru Ovando, on to 83 to Big Fork, then 206 to Columbia Falls on 2 and onto Glacier. Polson and esp Kalispell is a PITA in high tourist time. We have a 40 ft fiver and there are no problems with this route. Really beautiful after leaving Ovando. Excellent 2 lane roads. Lots of CGs to stop at along this way. Esp Swan Lake. If you are an Elks member, the Kalispell Lodge has a real nice RV park.

I disagree with the east vs west side of Flathead Lake option. Going up MT 83 (Seely Swan Highway) is both more scenic and quicker. East side of Flathead is narrow and has little or no shoulder - plus 93 has lots of traffic. I don't have a map either - but take I90 to Garrison; head east on US 12 to Avon; head north at Avon to US 200; go west to MT 83 which will take you to Bigfork; 83 has great camping/fishing/boating if you so desire. Even if there's no construction, I avoid 93. HOWEVER: if you're doing this trip in the winter, check the weather/road report first. US 93 is a better road for winter travel.

We head west out of Yellowstone and then go north.

Stay on the right side of the road and stop every now and then to get some fresh air, fish a little and enjoy the country.

In a day or two we are in West Glacier.

There is not right or wrong way to go and best is hopefully what you want to be doing and enjoying it.

I have to agree with this assessment. I've criss-crossed western Montana eight times on four different trips to Glacier N.P., each time I try to vary my route a little. I haven't been disappointed yet.
Spectacular state.

But maybe, Dennis, information overload. :-)

Am sure you will work this out just fine.
