Twice in Florida I was not told to leave, but told by LEO that no overnight parking was allowed by county ordinance, and I could be fined and/or towed for a violation… I thanked them both, and asked in their law what constituted overnight in the ordinance… they were unable to tell me, one even tried to pull it up on his computer… I have yet to find any that define overnight by number of hours or between hours of…

I stayed both places without incident, but could have been cited…

In you arrive after midnight, can you really be overnighting, without staying until after midnight of the same date???

If you stop at 11:55PM and leave at 12:01AM are you guilty of overnighting???

If you were shopping from 11:55PM until 12:01 AM and have receipts to show that, are you now just parking???

I am betting in most cases if you are cited, the citation would easily be thrown out in court… they just know you don’t want to take the time for that, and is the only teeth in most of those laws…

Answer = Yes.
Once by security - once by store employees/manager.
Each of the above were polite & directed me to close-by places that parking (overnighting) could be done.

And - -

Unless it's a government (state, county, city) owned parking lot,
it is private property.

So two things come into play:
1. It's private property. Property owner may not allow overnighting.
2. There may (also) be a local ordinance prohibiting overnighting.

So, no big deal - you move on.

BTW - one of the above was a WalMart in Oregon. The employees explained they even had people setting up tents in the parking lot for "extended" stays!

Never asked to leave...though once I was asked to MOVE around 4:30am. When parking (in pouring rain, the reason Liz and I decided to stop early), I didn't see that I was partially blocking access for the tanker delivering gas. Liz moved the bus, we stayed until the rain stopped around 8am.
