We are picking up our new Skyline Nomad TT this weekend. I need to make a decision on weather or not to purchase the extended warranty by then. It's a 2000$ option if we want it.
They are telling me that it covers the TT for 7 years from bumper to tongue. any service shop can perform the repairs on the TT and will be paid by the warranty company. The name of the warranty is EasyCare.

Anyone have any experience good or bad with extended warranties???

Thanks in advance for the comments

I'm sure most responses will be "don't waste your money". It's a fact that the only people who benefit from these policies are the Extended Warranty companies. Personally I'd put the $2000 in a savings account and use it for repairs if needed.
But it's your choice. $2000 for 7 years peace of mind is not bad provided they really DO cover "EVERYTHING". Read the fine print VERY carefully, especially your responsibility as far as "maintenance" is concerned. Many of these outfits will not cover roof leaks if you don't caulk/reseal every six months or so.
You also need to factor in how much work YOU are prepared to do if and when things go wrong.

Ultimately, it will be up to you to make that decision but when this question is often asked, most forum members state to keep the $2000 in a separate account and you will more than likely come out ahead than paying for the warranty upfront. Never heard of EasyCare before but most warranty companies do their best to find reasons to deny your claim. On a highend Class A rig an extended warranty might be a good idea but most TTs/5ers are easily fixed if one is somewhat handy with tools. Our TT came with a 2 year warranty so we said "no" when the dealer tried to persuade us to purchase the extended warranty. Never needed to use our warranty since it was much easier to make the minor repair or two myself than hauling it down to the dealer and leaving it for an unknown period of time. If you're looking for peace of mind and have $$$ to burn then go for it. Have lots of fun camping in your Skyline Nomad!!!

And it 7 years from the day you buy it so it is really just 4 years seeing a some of your stuff has 2 years parts and labor and 3 years parts from the manufacture. I would not bother either.

i agree with all the others but would add: read ALL the instuctions on how to make a claim if you do decide to buy it. if you don't follow them to the letter, they can reject the claim, my experience anyway. i did it once, won't do it again.

With a manufacturer's warranty the company has a vested interest to honor the warranty for the sake of reputation and future business.
With a third party warranty provider, the insurer has a vested interest to deny any claim.
I, personally would not bother, but to each his or her own comfort level.
Have a look at what Consumers Report has to say about extended warranties.

Tell the dealer this:

"If you ever mention the warranty again, if you bring it up again, if you spend even 10 more seconds or 10 more words trying to sell it to me, I will nix the entire trailer deal and walk out."

Excellent point and true of just about ALL of those insurance policies. I'd take that 2,000 and bank it and insure yourself. Odds are greatly in your favor.

By the way, you might want to ask yourself why you have to purchase and pay for it NOW when it won't cover ANYTHING until the original FACTORY warranties expire (probably two years on the RV and three on major appliances). You should be able to USE the RV for a couple of years to get a feel for how reliable it actually is and THEN make your decision about buying insurance for it.

Good luck / skip
