Just remember, all this cold came from the north. No matter how cold it is here, it is probably colder the further north you go. Hang in there...it will get better.

After my morning coffee I fell asleep in my chair. When I woke up I realized that the light was left on in the bathroom, so I went back to shut it off. OMG... it was the sun coming thru the skylight. Do I dare say the worst is over???

Hey! At least we set a record. 29 in Harlingen this AM. The good news? It is not windy. Better temps are headed this way.

Sea dog, I was talking about the El Nino effect..cooler, wetter weather expected in the south this winter. So far it seems as if we've already had more rain than we had all last season in our part of SW Florida, but the sun keeps coming back and temps are usually in the 70's or 80's. Three days of 80's are predicted early next week. This area has been suffering through a multi-year drought, so the water's welcome, but our county is on a flood watch today. That's how much rain we've been getting with this last system. We're through with it by noon today, and I'll be glad to see that Florida sunshine again!

Well, welcome to Texas ya'll. Yep this is normal, if there is such a thing as normal for Texas. Ya'll been spoiled by the past couple of years of no rain and warm temps. It has been so long with no rain that many of our resevoirs are half empty. Alot of them you could not use the boat ramps since there is no water at the ramps. Up around Austin, 2 of our largest resevoirs are still 20 ft down even with all the rain we recently received. So the past couple of years we been coughing on the dust, the next year or so we may be treading water. Normally a Texas winter is usually rainy and cool interspersed with days or weeks of 60-70 degrees. The TGV usually stays in the 60's or 70's but when a Blue Northern blows down from the Rockies it will get cold. Heck we ain't even had a good dust storm in awhile. Wait till we get one of those, your DW's will really freak out when the inside of your rig is coated with a thick layer of red dust. Also when there is an El Nino we are usually a lot wetter too. But you got to remember a 50 degree day in Texas seems as cold as a 20 degree day in Mn. So sit back and relax with a cold Shiner Bock, the weather will change,....... or maybe not. -------- Notice I always said usually. Only problem is in Texas there is nothing usual.

Some people like to compare Apples to Oranges . It is always better to compare apples to apples . The average high temp. for where we live in Mn., at this time of year, is 27 F . Yesterday at home it was 22 F. A span of 5 degrees . The average high temp for Alamo Tx is 73 F . Yesterday it was 41 F . A span of 32 degrees . Where was it colder according to average?
Average low Mn 11 F . Yesterday low temp. was 11F difference of 0
Average low for Alamo 54 F This morning temp. 32F , difference of 22F
Anyone can say things about the cold and snowy winters we left behind , BUT get real . Compare the averages for latitudes and see for yourself where it is really "colder" !

No you are still comparing apples to oranges there. Up north your temps stay pretty much within 20 degrees in the 20's or 30's to get your average. In Texas our temps can range from the 80's to 20's to get our averages. So just cause the average is 70 don't mean a week in the 30's is unusal for us. Our temps will go from freezing at 7am to 80 by lunch time. Usually we don't get a freeze after Feb much less March. But last April, after most of ya'll had left for home, we had a hard freeze that destroyed Texas's entire peach crop. The point is, in Texas you can't say a week of 30's and raining is unusual. It just may not have happened in a while that's all.

Departure from average does not lie .It has been colder here in the Valley on average than it has been at home! The average is a figure that has been averaged over many years of records . Do not try to confuse your answer by saying how low it can be one morning and how high it can be that same day , that is not how averages are calulated . One day or one week does not make an average . Examples of departure from average are normal everywhere .As you can see by the amount of viewers to this post , there is some interest in "what's with the weather in the RGV?"

A record low is a record low, no matter what state it is in. Weather fluctuates wildly all over the country, not just in Texas. Even little old Illinois can have a range of forty degrees from north to south on any given winter day.
