You need to know the running amps. on the A/C unit. Take the amps. and multiply it time the volts. You now have the running watts. Figure the starting watts at about 300% of the running watts. ...RVH

Center Pin wrote: My EF2400IS runs my 13,500 AC fine. I have also run it (as a test) on a Honda 2k, I turned off all other breakers, turned off eco-throttle, turned fan on first, then fired up compressor. I think the key is to have a good hard start cap.
Bingo on the last!
My Yam 2400is will easily start and run my 15K btu A/C just fine.
However, it struggles to get the 13.5 going. Haven't bothered to
check - but would guess the 13.5 doesn't have the hard start cap.
(That gen was an option. Probably "no frills").
Have never run the gen/Ac in extremely hot weather (usually have hook-ups) or at much above sea level.

As (I think was) already mentioned, shut off or unplug the converter when you're running the A/C. Along with the hard start cap, that really eased the load on my generator.
