I have a broken door catch for one of the storage compartments. It's that white plastic, bullet shaped hook. I bought a replacement and tried to remove the old one by removing the screws. It seems to be adhered to the aluminum siding by this foamy stuff. If I rip it off, where can I get this sealant?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It sounds like expanding foam insulation or Rhino Glue. If it is an actual adhesive I would put my money on Rhino Glue, it foams up as it cures. If it is just a real stiff sponge like material it is probably expanding foam insulation. Both can be picked up at Home Depot, Lowes, or other hardware stores.

Is Rhino Glue a permanent adhesive like super glue? I still need it to be removable in case the door catch breaks again. Thank you for your reply.

More than likely what you're finding is tape putty that was put under the piece when it was mounted to seal against water intrusion through and around the holes. Just scrape it off and clean the area with a solvent and get some new putty tape to use when you mount your new catches. Most any RV dealer would have the product.

In that you are speaking of an exterior compartment catch to hold the compartment door open, I agree with SkipNChar. The product between the catch and the side of your RV is most likely plumbers putty, or plumbers putty tape.

You can find this at most hardware stores.
