Hi everyone, my Onan generator has about 217 hours on it , which is about 50 hours a year over two two years I've owned the toy hauler. Its a 2002 WW FT 2200. How many hours will a generator last? 500? 1000? more? it works great (so far) and I'm just curious as to how much life is expected out of it.
Looking forward to your experiences and opinions
Thanks
Dave

If maintained and your lucky on top of that you could expect over 10,000 hours of operation....Clean oil and air filters a must...

With an '02 gen and 217 hours,it's probably not going to last much longer-225 hours would be the high limit for it.I can come and get it from you before it becomes a boat anchor I have seen gens with over 1000 hours and 8 years old running good.Just keep it maintained and enjoy it.

Thanks, Dave
I'm not sure about the Onan, but I have an old PTO generator (runs off the tractor PTO) that is at least 35 years old. It has no hour meter, but has a ton of hours on it. I've put two new sets of brushes in it over the years. It never gets run except if it's needed and just sits in the barn. I would think the engine on the Onan would give out before the generator itself.

Well the guy I was camped next to over the holiday ran his for 3 days straight, 24/7. Probably does it every trip, so I wouldn't worry about it. If you check the owners manual they have some instructions on how to exercise your generator to keep it running tip top. Here is what they say;
Onan manual wrote: EXERCISING THE GENSET
Exercise the genset at least 1 hour each month if
use is infrequent. Run the genset at approximately
1/2 rated power. See LOADING THE GENSET
(Page 9). A single exercise period is better than
several shorter periods.
Exercising a genset drives off moisture, re-lubricates
the engine, replaces stale fuel in fuel lines and
carburetor and removes oxides from electrical contacts
and generator slip rings. The result is better
starting, more reliable operation and longer engine
life.
