I think they're getting a bad rap since they obviously have the BEST customer service. Any time you ask them a question and don't like the answer you can call back and the next rep will give you a different answer. Keep calling long enough and you'll get the answer you want to hear.

They've been doing business this way for years. It's called operating in mass confusion.

I guess the REALLY scary thing from a customers standpoint is that they say they don't CARE because they consider the % of customers who leave them as the only important thing.

Hey Skip, it sounds a lot like when you call the IRS with a question. Gosh maybe the Social Security folks or Medicare also.

Where I live, US Cellular is my carrier and locally, do a great job. When we go to Florida, sometimes I can't call my DW 10 miles away. Calling from Alaska to the lower 48 is never a problem either.JMHO

I have consistently gotten better customer service from government agencies (IRS, bank regulators, local government etc.) than private companies (Verizon being my worst experience). The government does not farm out customer service to India like the private companies do! I rarely have had a good experience with foreign based customer service.

Any company that tries to keep you as a customer by forcing you into a multi-year contract rather than trying to keep you with outstanding service and competitive rates is one I stay away from.
Every major country EXCEPT the USA requires all cell phones to work on any service so you can buy the phone of your choice and use it on the carrier of your choice. No "free" phones that way but no contracts either. The companies there must try to keep you with good rates and great service because they know you can leave anytime you want and keep your same phone and phone number.

I am with AT&T but like it a lot better before when it was Bell South, ST&T is kind of screwed up.

Another result of an unregulated free market approach pushed by those that demonize any form of government regulation. Customer service is key but AT&T & Verizon dont get it. Dishnetwork does get it and I have been very happy with it for Sat TV.

Yes AT&T was pathetic in that ratings survey. Having been on three different cell services over the past 18 years, I have to say the Verizon has been the best for me. In the urban areas they all seem to have pretty good coverage, but when you move out into the ex-urbs where I live the service can fall off with AT&T. As to customer service, I have to say I have had zero problems (knocking wood) with Verizon's customers service, they have always proven to be friendly and have resolved my issues. This is why, even though I am an "Mac person", I waited for Verizon to get a top notch smartphone, instead of switching and using the iphone on AT&T. I purchased a Motorola Droid as soon as they came out last month and I am a very happy camper so far.
BTW, Verizon is supposed to be swamping the market with Android phones next year, it will be interesting to see how in impacts AT&T as their customers contracts fall off and as the Android OS is improved over time (it's pretty good right now) just as the iphone OS was also improved over time. Of course there is always speculation, seemingly more rampent these days that Verizon will get some sort of Apple phone next fall, although by that time it might not matter as much as Android gets more accepted. It's worth noting that an independent cell phone market analyst estimated that they have sold 800,000 Droids in less than a month. There sure was a lot of pent up demand for a good Verizon smartphone considering how many millions of folks already have the iphone. Don't get me wrong, Blackberry and Palm have made some good smartphones, but they aren't like the iphone/Android phones when it comes to apps and internet access.
Anyway, as usual I am heading off topic.
