I thought this was a common knowledge subject as I discovered this trick decades ago but I've discovered few folks know about this little trick.

FWIW: I alway's leave two ice cubes laying on the floor of our RV freezer. If the ice cubes ever disappear, I know the refer/freezer has lost power and been off long enough for the freezer foods to spoil before the power came back on and refroze the freezer foods.

Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

We used to do something similar, but a bit less messy. We'd warm a glass marble in our hand, and then let it melt a shallow pocket in an ice cube still in the ice tray. If the marble droped down into the tray at some point, we knew the fridge had been off too long. Now we have a dual readout wireless monitor with alarm settings to let us know if the fridge or freezer get too warm or cold.

We do this in both our freezers at home when we're gone.

a couple of ice cubes in a sandwich size ziplocks. Gives you peace of mind when you see it hasn't changed shape or melted.

Does that thermometer track the highest temperature seen? Or are you planning on watching it 24 / 7 / 365?

The point is to know if the freezer warmed up while you weren't watching.

Forgot to mention .... we actually had the house freezer die on us just about a month ago. No fun at all. Lost a lot of food. It never turned back on though, so it was obvious it was thawed and had to be thrown out! So, I just had to add some humor here!
