Topic: Fluid change 3060 Allison transmission?

Posted By: The Beave on 06/21/10 07:10am

Is it difficult to change the fluid and filters on my Allison 3060 transmission? Any tips?

After 25,000 miles its time for my second Transcend oil change to make it 100% Transcend.

Not difficult. The only "special tool" you will need is an inch-lb torque wrench.

The filter pack from Allison comes with excellent directions and torque specs. It will probably come with more gasket choices than you need-- just use the old ones to decide which ones YOU should use.

Start by really cleaning the bottom of the transmission-- cleanliness is paramount.

Don't have my Allison manual here right now, but that sounds correct-- again, it will be on the installation instructions in the filter pack.

My Snap-ON 1/2" ft-lb torque wrench doesn't go below 50 ft-lbs, so I use my 3/8" inch-lb wrench. Clearly, if you have a ft-lb torque wrench that accurately reads in the 38-45 ft-lb range that's fine.
