So I've had my WW SL3005 about two years, it's a 2009 (manufacture date 2007, so the tires are about 3 1/2 years old with alot of sitting) and thinking about replacing the wheels/tires.

Currently has the standard 15x6 chrome WW wheels on it, which are starting to rust. Tires are OEM trailermasters (or whatever they're called) 225 75 15 LRD

Anyone upgrade to 16" wheels on these models? What type of offset do they have, or are all trailer wheels a standard offest? Has 6 lug (i'm guessing 5.5).

I know, take it down to the tire store and have them try some wheels, and I might do that when i'm ready, but I'm just curious what others have done to upgrade to 16" wheels on this model.

Looks like it'll be about an inch larger wheel tire/combo sticking with the same size, so just from looking, should be good.

We're about to take a 1000 mile trip here next week. Tires look great checked pressure and all that, but if I do have a problem wouldn't mind being a little prepared with what I want to buy.

thanks!

I recently found some cracks developing in my WW wheels, and was looking at the chrome modulars to replace them. Took a wheel off and checked the back spacing, and about a 3/4" difference. Looking at the back spacing on various wheel charts, never found a 3/4" one, so would guess they are zero off-set. Try here.

Stock wheels are 0 offset.
Not sure if anyone has fit a 16" wheel/tire setup on a superlite. I'm not sure you have the clearance to fit one.

Has anyone actually done this now? I have a 2008 (manuf date of 6/07) SL3005 that I have had lifted for ground clearance.

Is the question of clearence available; one of height (in the trailer wheel arch) or width (between the two tires)?

I would love to switch out my 15's in favor of 16's which would enable me to use truck tires instead of trailer tires.

Would love to hear if someone has done this.

NOT a WW, but a Thor.
I am in the process of switching over to 16"
I have the wheels/caps/lugs, just need Some $$ to get the tires.
The only issues I can see on my rig is the inside clearance, the space from the inside of the tire to the flooring/wheel well liner and
I can't go to 235/85 x 16" because of the distance between the tire treads will be under 1".
So 225/75 x 16" will have to do, I need to get them mounted up and checked for clearance and thinking I will have to cut the floor/wheel well area some.

Hope that helps

Trailer rims are typically 0" offset. Negative offset rims will lower your axle capacity.

You need 1" clearance between tires and about 3" of loaded bump clearance for suspension travel/articulation.

Believe you are blessed with 33" axle center to center spacing like BOB -above- so tire choice are lmited. Typically 33" spacing will use the tire size Bob chose or use of a LT245/75R16 LR E if a 3042# tire is needed for 6K axles.

Trailer wheels are zero offset because of the way the axle bearing are set up. I mounted a set of 16" chevy wheels with 3/4" offset on a GN equipment trailer years ago and whipped the bearing out in about 15k-18k miles. My equipment trailer manufacture service rep and the dealer told me what would happen but I though he didn't know what they was talking about. Crow is tough and stringy and doesn't taste good.
The trailer was under warranty but the rep still had both axles replaced and didn't cost me a thing.

I went with the LT215/85-16 E @ 2680 lbs of capacity on my present 11200 GVWR 5er on 16" six lug white modular trailer wheels from trailerpart.com. The LT235/85-16 E has 3042 lbs of capacity if you need that much and can get them under the wheel well. Make sure the wider tire will work under there.

Mkae sure the wheels you get are rated for what you haul, the modular wheels I have are rated at 3500 #'s each, so basically whatever tire I put on there they will handle it. Unlike the junk wheels that came with the rig. I have 2 cracked wheels and 1 ruined tire to show for it, the other tire was saved only because it went flat in the back yard.

Still trying to figure out which size to go with, but I ran across something interesting.
Goodrich Commercial TA's in a 215/85R16E has the same capacity as the 225/75R16E but .2" narrower and .5" taller.
Compared to the Maxxis 225/75R15E I am running, .3" narrorwer and 1.6" taller.

I should be able to fit this tire without mods (or slight trimming) and it looks like I am within the Dexter axel suggested clearances.

And thinking narrower tread equals less scrubbing as well.

Any other imput ??

And thanks

My current 11200 gvwr 5er came with new Goodyear Marathon ST225/75-15 D load range. I prefere a narrower tire tread on my trailers so I went with the LT215/85-16 E BFG Commercials. My Goodyear truck tire dealer made a good deal on prorating the junk Marathons for a set of BFG Commercials. My spare is one of the 15" ST but it has never been on the ground.

I have about 1" clearance between the tires and 3" at the top and a 3/8"-1/2" clearance on the inside next to the shock mount. No issues since '03 and over 70k miles.

The trailer tracks the truck now/no wallowing around behind the truck like the STs did./the trailer pulls easier/the E tires have noticeably less carcass roll while side scrubbing on sharp turns.

I keep them pumped to 80 psi max 24/7 since day one. Excellent tread wear pattern.
