Although this campground has a beautiful setting, we will not stay in it again.
They paved the close to 1/2 mile road into the campground... then apparently had trouble with folks"speeding" in and out... so they put in 5 speed bumps... worse yet they are on an angle..which sets up a rocking motion in RV's. A bumpy ride in the toad as well everytime you go out to tour around.
$5.00 per night ($2.50 with pass )... pit toilet, picnic table and firepit. All the water spigots have locks on them.
Right across the road from the entrance there is free camping so that is where we will go next time.

To each his own....we like Tuttle Creek. We have been going there for several years, I believe Tuttle Creek is semi-primitive  . The water spigots have been locked as long as we have been going there. As for pit toilets if you want running water toilets go to a KOA (konstantly over charging America) What do you expect for $5.00 or $2.50 a Day?

Just finished talking to the host. He said they are closing the campground for 2 months ( probably May & June ) They are going to level the sites, put an actual water system in, a dump station....
He too really dislikes the 5 speed bumps, the dumpster truck has just about had it with coming in to dump the trash. He asked me to put it in writing as many others have already done.

Exactly what does "locked water spigots" mean?
What are they there for if you can't get water from them? .... or do you check out a key someway/somewhere if you're paying for a campsite?

Phil, they had to lock them due to big leaks. so there is no water here at the moment. The host seemed a little frustrated but looking forward to the improvements. There is 3 rigs here today...

Tuttle Creek has no potable water (clearly stated on the BLM web page: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/bishop/camping/tuttle.html), unlevel sites, and the access road is a bit bumpy. And, there's very little shade and it can be *really windy*! *However*, the campground offers good views, it's quiet, the sites are very well-spaced, the creek has fish in it, and it's 5 bucks a night; $2.50 with a "old people" (or disabled) pass.
Tuttle Creek works for a lot of people; if it's not for you, there are other options. BTW, the "site leveling" project has been in the works for a long time; I wouldn't plan on it happening anytime soon.

I guess that's one advantage of carrying five sets of stair-step level blocks for the worst motorhome case of having to triple-point level by raising all four rear tires and one front!

Someone mentioned the views from Tuttle Creek -- they are pretty good, and they make up for the tough access road and the lack of amenities. Here is the sunrise on the Sierra -- the view is toward the west, with the sun behind us:

Dan's post says it all. If you want to boondock, expect un-level sites and magnificent views. Some would say that's a fair trade-off.
