We're in Lake Wales. We have a direct flight out of Orlando at 8:10 a.m. At least the departure hasn't changed yet. Flights back from Vancouver have changed a few times on different legs. I thought we'd get from Whitefish to Calgary in one day. Then half-way up the route between Calgary and Jasper. Maybe rethink. Just trying to have a plan in place to deviate from!

mapper, Gail, if you are in Whitefish Montana, unless you just want to see Calgary, it is a ways east of you at that point. From Whitefish, I tend to head on north, cross the border at Roosville and north on Hwy 95. Some trips we will turn right at Radium Hot Springs and go to Banff and north on the Ice Fields Parkway to Jasper. Other times, lately, we go on north to Golden and turn right. Yoho NP has become one of our favorites in that area. Kicking Horse Campground is our first choice of a place to stay, just out of the small town of Field BC. From there on east a few miles to join up with the Ice Field Parkway. Whitefish to Field is doable in one day if a person doesn't stop too often. Lots to see in that part of the world, absolutely beautiful scenery, etc.

After Jasper, most often we will head east a ways to Hinton and take Hwy 40 north to Grande Cache and on to Grande Prairie, then to Dawson Creek and the Alaska Hwy. If we are going up the Cassiar, we turn left at Jasper and head west to the junction at Kitwanga.

I haven't gone through Calgary in the last 20 years that I can remember. Too big for my tastes, about the size of Tampa. Nice large city, if you like nice large cities, LOL.

On edit:
Decided I had better check that last statement on size. Calgary, on my atlas, shows to be almost 3 times the population of Tampa, even bigger than Jacksonville, Florida's largest city.

I've been lurking for a few days since Grandma Carol alerted me to this group. My wife & I will be in the May 13 flock, flying in the 12th, catching the charter from MSP. This is our first time with GAH and first trip to Alaska. We're looking forward to the adventure.

I've been reading whatever I could find about this. Thanks to all contributors.

Our rough plan is to head west to Yellowstone (and sights along the way), then to Banff, Jasper, Grande Cache, Alaska Hwy, Denali, Seward, whatever. 25', 18 days, hang on.

I guess it depends on how far you like to walk, but for me the answer would be no.

27 days until we fly to Minneapolis! Today I marked my maps with campgrounds along the way.
